My daughter is 14 months old and is not walking yet. She pulls herself up and cruises around furniture and all, but does not walk. If I try to make her walk she just sit down gives me that smile and does not want to budge.
Should I take her to doc or do you think she needs a intevention like physical therapy..
Please help. Yes she is little on chubby side she weight 28 pounds.

As a general rule, trust your instincts. If something seems odd or wrong to you about the way your baby moves, ask about it. After all, you know your child best.
The warning signs for babies from 13-24mmonths are --- :
1.by 18 months, can't walk
2.after several months of walking, doesn't walk confidently or consistently walks on toes
3.after his second birthday, is growing less than 2 inches per year.
since all babies grow differently, there are no specific month-month guidelines. however, walking, sitting has alot to do with bone density & strength related to it. when the child is ready, he picks himself up without any support, whenever he is not yet ready, he will like what you make him do, as its new for him, but at the same his legs will not support his body. as far as walking is concerned, if you try to make him walk when his legs arent ready, if he learns you will be happy but often you will compromise with his bowlegs ! the result of making your child walk when he isnt ready.
massaging nicely daily does help abit to make muscles strong enough to support bone. also, include more calcium foods in his diet.
however, most babies take their first steps sometime between 9 and 12 months and are walking well by the time they're 14 or 15 months old. Don't worry if your child takes a little longer, though. Many perfectly normal children don't walk until they're 16 or 17 months old.
also,At 14 months, your toddler should be able to stand alone.check if she does that.
sHe can probably squat down and then stand back up again, and he might even work on walking backward..its ok to do so.
hope this was helpful,
Regards

We have a son who is 1 year and 1 month old. He has not started to walk yet. But he is very active and climbs stairs up and down on his knees. And if he is in mood he holds the bed or a chair to take few steps. Like all other parents we were also worried about him not walking yet. But now after reading your reply and all other mails we have stopped thinking about this. Guess our son is too lazy to walk like our doc said. I have learnt one thing from this, we should not compare any kid's milestones with a another kid. We should give them their own time to acheive their milestones.
