Iam pregnant for the first time and interested in having a normal delivery.My gynecologist says that there is no way of predicting a normal or Ceserean.Pls. let me know whether it can be predicted in advance.

First of all congratulatios!

As AK has mentioned that doctors and patients prefer to go for normal delivery but there can be circumstances where you can not avoid a cesarian. A few of them AK already mentioned, other can be

5. Mom does not have that wide cervix to push the baby thru. (I have friends who had to opt for caesarian after 24 hrs of labor)
6. baby did not move at all and baby's heartbeat starts to go down.
7. If there is any risk involved as for you and your baby during the labor.

there can be other factors that can lead to caesarian but you can always take precautions, which decreases the risk of having a caesarian.. like,
1. exercise regularly, go for at least 30 minutes walk in the begining and increase it gradually.
2. Eat healthy, do not give in to all your cravings. healty weight gain leads to healthy baby and smooth delivery.
3. Make sure you are getting all the essential minerals and vitamins.
4. Don't exert yourself. your bady goes thru alot in pregnancy, take enough rest.
5. Keep urself educated about what is going on with your baby and your body.

However unless u are a elected C-section or some complication arises during labor
like
1. umbical cord wrapped around babys neck
2. brech baby
3. failing heartbeat or baby
4. mom not able to push...
can lead to c-section during labor...
