I think, your child is too young to start solid foods. I would recommend to start solids at age 6 months. Yogurt and iron-fortified infant cereal are smooth and fine in texture and would be suitable for him at age 6 months.

(Following is all for ages five or six months):

Doctors recommend offering One food at one time (example,give him banana on monday ONLY). Give each new food for 3 or 4 days in a row before starting another food. Single-ingredient foods are best at first.(example, rice,oatmeal etc). If baby gets a belly ache or a rash, you' ll know which food may be to blame. After you' ve successfully tried individual foods, it' s OK to offer a pureed mix of two foods.

If food is left over from the dish, throw it out. baby' s saliva from the spoon can spoil the leftover food.
Try to make food at home using blender example, apple sauce (good iron source for baby).
Try to preserve the nutrients in your baby' s food by using cooking methods that retain the most vitamins and minerals. Try steaming or baking fruits and vegetables instead of boiling, which washes away the nutrients.

Infants usually like fruits and sweeter vegetables, such as carrots and sweet potatoes, but don' t forget other vegetables. Your goal should be to introduce a wide variety of foods. If your baby doesn' t seem to like a particular food, reintroduce it at different meals. It may take quite a few tries before your child warms up to certain foods.
