i m akash from a conservative brahmin family.recently my mother planed to do upanayanam or poonul kalyanam for me.my elder sister divya suggested that the ceremony be performed in a traditional way,involving head shaving and leaving kudumi and ear piercing and wearing of gimmiki earring.i am very afraid please help raaj replied. i have some doubts:-

1-what sort of hairstyle will suit me.personally i like long hair styles some hairstyle that is very girlish.

2-What sort of earring should i wear? my mom told traditional gold jhumkas and gold nose ring like bride nose ring

3-for how much time should i wear earrings?

4-what sort of dress should(must be feminine) i wear?

5-i have thick eyebrows if i shape eyebrows will they grow even more thicker??

6-should i pierce my ears again in other part of the ears in the ceremony as my mom told that they piercing again double earing ??

7- which kind of shoes i wore?

8- which kind of wax i use?

i m Raaj from a brahmin family.my family planed to do upanayanam for me.my mother and sisters suggested that the ceremony be performed in a traditional way,involving head shaving and ear piercing and wearing of gimmiki earring.i am very afraid please help i am a boy 17 year.we are five sisters and i am the only one brother for them. i join the forum for yours help. my whole family want to upanayanam ceremony for me.i did not know what i do for this. because my parent does not allow me for hair cutting since my age of 8 year. now my hair is 3.8 foot long. my mother and my sisters care my long hair they put oil three day in a week.my sister apply different style at me. they want my hair grow more faster.when i was 9 year old my mom and my sister took me in jewelry shop and piercing my both ears.at this time i do not understood what the want.after this they buy for me a gold jhumka set.they put in my ears i feel pain but my mom said that it is nessasray for me. after that they buy for me girli dress like skirt,chudi etc.at my birth day my mom and my sister give me many set of bangles, angklets, earing jhumkas etc. one of my sister give me a complete saree.another one give me a gold nose ring my nose was not piercing at that time after two week a woman come to our home and she piercing my nose with hot needle.i feel pain.after this i look totally like a girl with all the jewelery and clothes also girly shoes even high hell sandals i wore. every day it is duty my sisters and mom to care me styling me.

i absolutely agree with shruthi,and i want
give you a few more suggestions.first after the ceremony also wear the gimmiki earrings chosen by yor sister,also regularly get your head shaved(ask your sister to do it),leaving the kudimi.as for the kudimi your mother or elder sister can oil it everyday and keep flowers in it(if you dont mind).as for the ear piercing,heated gold needle is advised to prevent infection shruthi replied. dear akash
first of all congragulations for the confirmation of your upanayanam.dont feel scared/shy/embarassed.tonsure or mottai is hardly going to take 10 min,and your elder sister is only going to perform it on you,and i am sure she will be gentle on you.as for kudumi,some of your classmates may tease but dont be
bothered about it.tonsure is immensely beneficial and a boy definitely looks cute and adorable with a tonsured,bald head and a kudimi and you must thank your sister as she is going to tonsure your head regularly.next coming to ear piercing,yes it does hurt quite a bit,but the pain is worth enduring.plus a beautiful diamond jhumka hanging from your ear lobes and gracefully swinging,is very cute and you may look a bit feminine with all the jewellery,but with a tonsured head no one will think you are a girl.so enjoy,dont worry and post your experiences and pics :-) akash replied. hi
my upanayanam is going to take place next week.my elder sister divya is going to perform the tonsure and ear piercing on me. she already bought a diamond jhumka for me and she said that she is planning to regularly tonsure me after the ceremony also akshita replied. dear akash
let me be frank with you,ear piercing does pain,and wearing earrings especially the long jhumkas will be uncomfortable but only for a short time.also after tonsure,your ridicule you,especially girls,but dont be bothered about it akshaya replied. hi akash
dont worry and dont feel shy about your tonsure and ear piercing,it belongs to our culture and hence it is essential.also i m sure you will good with earrings,especially the long gimmiki type.also tonsure or mottai is beneficial and you will definitely look cute with a kudimi and earrings. sanjana replied. dear akash
tonsure and ear piercing are essential part of upanayanam,tonsure leads to mental and physical hygiene.ear piercing is also very beneficial.also you will look cute with a pair of gimmikis hanging from your ear lobes.you also have to wear other jewelleries,when my younger brother had his upanayanam,along with ear piercing,his nose was also pierced!so dont be worried and request your sister or mother for a nice pair of earrings!
