Hi Hetal,

My son is 7 months old. He got ear pain twice so far. both the times after cold for longer duration(7-15 days). Cold was not bothering him much. First time I didnt give him any medicines for cold. Hence he had very mild cold..and I just used to give him nasoclear drops to clear his nose block.

This time though I gave him medicines, cold (nose block)lasted for 15-20 days. Both the times doctor said there is congestion in chest and it is just seasonal.

1) What is causing Ear pain for him?
2) What precautions should I take to avoid it in future.
3) My son takes feed from my right breast only laying down. He doesn't take feed if I feed him sitting from right side. And he always get ear pain in his left ear(The ear that is down while he is lying down.).
Does this ear pain has something to with feeding him in lying down position.

Anyone else had similar problem, please share you experiences/suggestions.

Hetal replied. 1. could be sign of mild bacterial ear infection,,check this,i have written alot on it and why it happens and how it happens and all you can do prevent it :

2 : replies will be answerred in link above.ne ear infection is caused by all of the above,,irrespective of age of baby !!!ne long lasting cold, cough, reflux can lead to ear infections///ear pains...

3. the ear that is down is having pain because of the way you are feeding him,,feed him elevated! make sure to keep yours and his head on pillow and feed him...the ear that is down, gets the liquid/bm deposits as the baby is lying and feeding ! avoid that..its a wrong way to breastfeed first of al...elevate yours and your baby head and see if that works !! sitting might become too much hght for him to feed ,,so only way that can help is yourself sleeping elevated,,if you are elevated by head, baby will tend to sleep elevated unknowingly !!!!

hope this explains why he is having repeated colds, coughs or earpains !
