Due Date Club January 2007:C-Sec question for Archie
2007-02-16
Name: Hetal Kamdar

Hi Archie,

I delivered on Jan 9th 07 via C-Sec. I really wanted a normal delivery. in my family (mother & sisters) everybody had a normal delivery. Please answer my que. i can´ t stop thinking that i cud have had a normal delivery, want to justify C-sec. decesions by docs.

- I started having contractions Jan 08 evening around 7:00 p.m. and got really intens by night 10:30 p.m. i timed them. they were very closed all togather and strong around 2:00 a.m. night. and got to hospital, i was about 2 cm. dialted. everything was normal,

- when i went to the hospital, doc kept me on pain medication as i was in too much pain.
not sure if it was pitocin... but it made me very drowsy and sleepy.
- then in the morning around 9:00 a.m. i was 4 cm. dialted and then they gave me Epidural
- then around 10:00 i was almost 5-6 cm. and doc broke my water. don´ t know why???
- around 11:30 i was 8 cm. dialted, and said soon we´ ll start pushing.
- around 12:30 i got fever around 101.something and doc kept me on antibiotic.
- fever didn´ t get reduced... and it affected baby´ s heart beats.
- doc decided to go for c-section. i asked doc to wait for some more time.
- at 3:00 p.m. on Jan 9th doc said he can´ t wait anymore as baby´ s heart beats are abnormal and did a c-section.

My questions/concerns are:

1) was decesion to c-section was right in my case?
2) Why did the doc. broke my water? it breaks naturally right?
3) Why did they gave me pain medication(not sure if it was pitocin, it made me very drowsy and sleepy) right when i admited to the hospital i was hardly 1/2 cm. dialted?
4) What are the chances of having a normal delivery for my next (2nd) child?
5) what could be the long term effect/health issues i could have due to c-setion??
