Hair Care:Cruel haircut

My neighbor had an 8 year old girl. Every few months she gets her head shaved with a razor, saying that it is good for the child's health & her hair. When she was young she did not mind but last time she cried for a week. Now she is scared of going near a barber shop but this time my sister has asked the street barber to come home and shave her head.
Have anyone experienced such a situation?
Isn't it cruel? I remember when I was 10 I had typhoid following which my head was shaved bald and I hid myself from other kids for weeks.
Tell me how can I convince my neighbor not to do that.

Hi Sujatha,
The incidennt identified by you is one manifistation of how parents crush personalities very early i life. The child might be going through some trauma and might distance herself from friends and society and she is more then 8 years and her formative years are on. If there is strong evidence that shaving the hair will solve the problem, as adviced by doctors it might be done, that too taking the child into confidence, never in any case without the child's consent... So you can influence the parents to think the child's way and not just their convenience ... I once visited a hospital to see my relative who was hospitilised and while I was there I say another patient who hada brain tumor an dhad to be operated, was a 24 year old very beautiful girl, and she was being prepared for the operation the next day, quite a critical one,, and so she was shaved by a barber of the hospital and rather in a crude fashion..in front of her family members and stuff like that... The girl was sobre since it was a matter of life and death for her, but the parents were even more upset seeing their daughter bald and in a green dress ready for the operation.. She had very long and nice hair and was very beautifull, am not sure if she survided the operation.... So its important to have the will of the child paramount is what I think....write back to me ramadu72 (yahoo com)
bye -Ram

It is good to keep the children's hair short. but not by this method. they can go for a crew cut if they want to keep hair short. Please advice them against shaving. Once in an year, during summer they can get it shaved.

The shaving can work sometimes.
My hair got very thin after my daughter was born, so much so that it was showing bad. A Ved told me that I should get my head shaved. Upon his advice and with my husband's support I had all my hair shaved and had a barber razor it several times during next two weeks. It took me a year to grow it to a fair length but now they are very healthy.
So if the child's hair are thin it may not be a bad idea.

Did you you visit the barber shop for the shave and explain to him why you whated him to shave repeatedly... would be good t ohear more from you.. Where are you from... and what do you do ? ... bye for now -Ram

Its indeed a very disturbing and infact a very weird situation. In our society there are people who do follow such traditional methods for whatever reasons ignoring the feelings of the child who can be made fun by peers and embaraased to no limits in schoolso the best you can do is talk sense into your neighbour whereby he or she should understand that they should give up on such traditional methods for satisfying their whims and fantasies leaving the child to face the music in the school and do your best as thats all you can do andthink thru what you are gonna say as when you are convincing someone communicate clearly.
Hope it works out fine for the kid.
Pal.

Texturizing spray for thin hair
Hello everyone,
I have medium volume hair but my hair type is very thin and silky. Due to which my hair doesn't hold curls for long hours. I have heard that texturizing spray helps to solve the above problem. Could someone please suggest the good texturizing spray for thin hair?... - Amulya Peru [View Message]
