Due Date Club February 2003:My Labor experience

Hi moms
I know some p'ple wanted to hear my experience in labor as first timer.
here it is.

I got regular contractions, from lower hip to abdomen on wednesday morning. I was admitted in hospital at 7:30 Am in the morning, My contractions started gettting more severe & regular, at 9:00am the Dr. broke my bag of water. She inserted the fetal monitor and contractions monitor into my vagina, thats the only internal exam thats really painful & uncomfortable.
After that the nurse took complete care of me, My mom & husband were in the labr room, I practised all the lamaze breathing techniquess that made me distract me from pain, point to be noted is more relaxed u r the faster u'll dilate, th nurse exmined me I was 4 cms dilated. Now the pain was unbearable, so I asked for an epidural, my folks were sent out and the anesthioligist administered the epidural. when they inject the epidural, u get an unberable contraction, It takes 15 mins for epidural effect. After that I didn't have any pain, at 12:30 I was almost 8 cms dilated.
till then my labor seemed so easy, but from 8 cm to 10 I took a long time, the baby's head was almost in pelvis and Dr. wanted to stop epidural & start make me push at 5:00. I started pushing, since epidural effect was left over, my pushing was insufficient, but within couple of minutes, the pain u'll never ever dream of in life will come into play(not scaring u), but its really too much, The nurse and my husband monitor my contractions on monitor, just when it begins, i wud be asked to take a deep breath and push...they 'll count till ten 3 times.
this went on for 3 hrs, finally at 8:00 the doc came, she was furious I hadn't yet made progress(how evil) and just her presence and her command made push harder, and the baby was finally out at 8:27PM.

over all , I am happy since everything went normal and not C-section. But at times do just wanna run from the hospital. Also a lot depends on the nurse u get, i had a wonderful lady, very positive and encouraging.

please do practise ur lamaze breathing, it really works
ALL THE BEST
AB

Thanks for taking the time to tell how your labor went, and I'm glad it went pretty well. You appear to have been strong and done a great job. Hope you and baby are doing well now.

Hope more people will post their stories - it will prepare us better for what to expect.

Aparna.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for posting your experience. Although this is my second time, your experience was really helpful as my first one came out too fast. Did not go thru all the stages.
God knows how will it be this time. I wish & pray that it is like my 1st one.

Just to let you'll know there can be some easy deliveries like my first one.I started having pains in my sleep around 1 AM. I kept bearing them. Finally I decided to go to hospital at 5 AM when I realized I had little bleeding. When I reached hospital I was 8 cm dilated. With few more pains and few pushes I delivered my 6.5 pounds baby girl at 6 AM.
WIsh you all and myself all the best for this delivery. My due date is 20th Feb. It can be anytime now.
Hope everybody posts their labor exp. to help others.
Roma

That was superb explanation from your side & while reading this i was feeling as though i'm seeing a live Delivery process. With your experience we can believe that epidural surely reduces contractions. Any way u've made it, congratulations.
Take care
