Hetal replied. hi sweety,
this was something i didnt want to hear. the cough did sound that harsh and too near in timings.
now about the drugs.
omnacortil is used is used to control the acute exacerbations of bronchial asthma, severe allergic reactions with respect to your case. it means your dr did see that its not something that can be done without medicine.5m once a day is normal recommended dosage so i am not concerned.also note that giving this medication does not mean that your baby is having asthma but there is a chance that he might be having this due to some allergic reaction of anything that yet difficult to know at this stage. it may be ne chemical around your house,ne perfume, air freshner,or sometimes even the detergent. check for saavya post that i mentioned earlier to you,it all those allergens list.
now about side effects, there are many. as far as your child is concerned, check for his psychological disturbances, muscular weakness only if you are conituing this for more than 1month,ne delay in wound if occurs or any kind of developmental delay or psychiatric disturbances.
at 2months your baby should be able to look at you from whatever direction you call, ofcourse at a nearest distance that your face covers his face. check for that, check his reflexes every day..tingle him in his toes, he should show some signs of it.give him your finger, check on how tightly he holds it. try to remove your finger by little pull, if his grip is tight enough.move the toy from right to left, make a little rattle in his ears,,check for his sound attentiveness. if constant, i repeat, constant and not less or more,if today he did something for that noise, watch a couple days that he contiues doing the same thing after 2-3dose of medication.
to cross check this thing, before giving medication check his reflex action and responses,,and the closely observe after the medication.
i want you to check on him until he recovers.
once he recovers with both the medicines, call your dr and ask him whether both the medicine needs to be completed according to amount given to you or can be stopped once baby has shown recovery.your dr might call you for an appointment to check for his recovery and depending on that he will continue or discontinue the drug.
now about asthalin, yes its pure asthma medicine. it is suggested widely by many drs for people suffering from long term asthma. if its the asthma inhaler, the overuse(giving it without needed, or continuiing even after recovery) of these bronchodilators or ne medication of course is hazardous.excess use of bronchodilators is always feared for the main reason is it damages heart and might cause fatal changes in rhythm.however,it depends on how much overuse of this drug is done.one of the reason why i see your dr has suggested this drug is due to cough with stuffy nose. your dr doubts your baby to have chronic bronchospasm. its nothing but a difficulty in breathing caused by a sudden constriction of muscles in the walls of bronchioles.it appears as a feature of asthma, or even chronic bronchitis.as far as safety levels with both the drugs are concerned, m fine with watever your dr has prescribed the dosage.they are pretty much at safe levels for both the drugs even considering age of 2months.
now about asthalin possible side effects, i want you to report to your dr if your child is having any nausea, vomitting, severe coughing or wheezing or having difficulty in breathing EVEN AFTER THE 2-3DAYS OF DOSAGE.or if your child seems to be restless without any reason. you feed him well, he had a good sleep, changed his diaper and still he seems to be restless and looks tired but still doesnt sleep..so watch for all these and call your dr immediately.
other than these medications are given for you are a result of your baby unexpected coughing style or sound.thats y i told you let your dr feel his breathe and check his throat and nose.its not common to have wet cough in that near timings of 5mins..
watch for ne thing other than these, mentioned in your manufacturers list of side effects, often given with medication or is printed on it..
and because your child is doubted right now with asthma & allergy medicine,,lets try to just make sure that the surroundings around him are very clean and dustfree or chemical free. check my post to saavya on stuffy nose, there are alot of things you can do to ensure your child has a healthy air to breathe inside your house..i understand its a matter of some little worry and we hv to wait for the medication to show some recovery,,but also that not to show ne side effects,,from ourselves thats we can do is to prevent house borne allergies.
other than that, as far as your baby is recovering, active, achieving his current expected milestone, being a mother you should be able to judge him rightly.
take care, dont panic, and keep an eye with these medications for next 3-4 days for recovery and watch for ne side effects.wait until 4complete days.
however, if the side effects are stronger,it will show from the day 1.
these are the general side effects and are expected to decrease over the time as the body gets used to these medications, but check for the severity level of these and never hesitate to call your dr for anything you feel is not going good as per your mother instinct. also note irregular bowels, a couple oz more or less feeds is ok whenever a new drug is given to baby.
but watch for severity like no bowels for 4 days, strong colour of urine, and baby not willing to drink milk at all for more than 5-6hours in his daytime or when he is not sleeping, even though it was his feeding time.so check on all these.
you know your child best than any one, so never step back with that instinct.
good luck and have a wonderful weekend.
