Name: Sarenya Kumar Hi people, Let me give a small intro about me before getting into the problem i face.
I' m Sarenya of 20yrs going to 3rd yr B.E. in a prestigious college in chennai.
I stay in college hostel as my college is far from my house.
I love my hair and started to grow my hair from my 8th grade. It had grown a little
below my buttocks. I' ve a very dense hair. It is thick and lustrous.
I always use Shikakai(which my mum prepares and sends exclusively for me)
to wash my hair and never used shampoo. I took much care to wash it regularly
once in 2 days by soaking it in oil and washing. But two weeks back my shikakai got
and i was forced to use shampoo as i was having exams. My hair became a little rough
and my scalp started to itch daily. So i turned back to my old shikakai. But still
the itching is there. Now starts the real prob, As it is holidays i came to my home.
Many relatives came home to see me, two days back my aunt came home. She saw me
rubbing the head as it was itching. My aunt is a doctor but not dermatologist.
She examined my head and told something which i didnt understand.
Later asked my mum to shave my head to get rid of itching. My mum and aunt are
compelling me to shave my head to get rid off itching. As i have very
long hair, my mum doesn' t want me too shave my head in parlour. So she has spoken
to a local barber. They didnt tell me when they are going to shave off my head.
Mum and Aunt told that it would shaved on 13th or 15th as they are auspicious days.
Mum has told me to wash my hair daily or even twice a day by soaking it in oil.
But as of now it is confirmed. 75 confirmed to shave my head. My mum told that
this is would be my 3rd time to shave my head. 1st-when i was 1yr, 2nd-when i was 3yrs.
If there is anyway to avoid this or get rid off itching, pls suggest me.
Or else i would go to sacrifice my lovable hair.Its very shivering when i
think that i would loose my long locks. Gals,Pls share your experiences
about head shaves, i' m really scared to shave my head as i have to pursue another 2yrs
of my college life. I really dont have courage. I' ve no way other than to shave my
head. Pls tell me the process of head shaving.

Really nice to be with Gundu.

Hey u are right, its a great feeling one cant explain with words when they have gundu. There is always a slight feeling that hair is gone but there is a huge happiness that different posture of ours(after head shave) is gonna come.

I had my first gundu on 13/06/2010 and did almost 7 gundu´ s (once in three or four days) till 04/07/2010. And its been two months, the hair has grown.

To be frank, The hair has become much more softer, thicker after shaving.I myself can feel that the density of hair has increased.

Moreover two of my friends who had a bet that they would also shave their head if i shave. To their surprise, they lost in the bet. They will also shave their head in this week.

I´ m in a dilemma whether to shave my head again with my friends or to shave later after growing some more hair.

Hey sahasra, orry to hear that you are also affected by the same prob which i faced. Read the topics completely i have shared my gundu experience below. I posted it on the night when i got my gundu done on 13th of last month. At first i was afraid, tensed and worried to shed my tresses. but somehow got courage and went to barber shop for getting my gundu. I did my first gundu on 13th of last month, its been 3 weeks with my gundu. U´ ll find the weight on your head less after doing gundu. Moreover breeze of air passing thru the head is a great pleasure. I dont cover my gundu, i go to places with my head uncovered. moreover i have done gundo almost 6 times from 13/06/2010 once in two days. so finally going to do gundo tomorrow night as my coll opens on monday. I wish to go to my college with super smooth clean shining gundu... Dont worry yaar, it will grow. when you do gundo hair tends to grow faster. I am experiencing this.. Happy gundu.. And dont forget to share your experiences of gundu..

i have gone thorugh ur message. that u have shaved yr head after headshave ur head is very shining.

reverse shving makes shining all the small tiny hairs will shave off.
very nice experience and also u have enjoyed a lot. U told after shave u enjoy the cool breeze.
apply medicines regularly to get rid of the itching.
why dont ur mothr accompanywith u while shave.
Any how u have shaved ur head.
every three days once shave it again and remove all the itching sense. U will be toally free from itchin while u goto college afer reopening.
I hope yr friends will not shave their head since they put bet for nothing.

Very nice experiennce and good courage u have done the headsahve. I pray god to grow hair fast.

Sarenya, I hope u r done with your headshave & u r with shining GUNDU by the time you read my post.
Sarenya as you have very long hair, you could have planned to offer ur tresses in a religious place somewhere in temples instead of barber or a parlour. Why couldn' t have you think in that perspective?
K, anyway if you haven' t still done with your Gundu then think of getting it done in a religious place.

Coming to my point.. I haven' t got Gundu in the recent past. I got it done a couple of times in my childhood days.

So, now you need to share your Experience.
By the way don' t feel bad Sarenya as I' m calling you GUNDU.. I' m juz Kiddng.. Ok.

I´ ve Shining Super Smooth Gundu Now

Ramya, everything happened all of the sudden so only couldn´ t offer my tresses in a religious place.i thought of it, but time didnt favour.

Hey Ramy you can call me GUNDU, SHINING GUNDU, SMOOTH GUNDU, ETC., no offenses bec i loved my hair and i also love my GUNDU. I love to be called GUNDU after seeing my face in the mirror.

Now let me explain you my experience about my GUNDU. As it was my last day with my hair, i gave it a wash once in morning and also gave a hot oil massage in the evening. Once it was dry, I wore a nice saree and went to a nearest photoshop and took photo - both passport size and post card size with my hair on my front. After that i had to attend my fren´ s sister marriage reception for which all my frens came. So i attended it and told my frens that i´ m going to shave my head tonight. They just laughed and didn´ t believe me. TWO OF MY FRENS HAD A BET WITH ME THAT THEY WOULD ALSO SHAVE THEIR HEAD IF I SHAVE MINE. I invited all my frens for lunch tomorrow, so that they would be astonished to see my Shining Gundu. As it was nearing 9, i bid adieu from them as my barber asked me to visit his saloon. I thought of changing my dress before shaving, but as time wasn´ t there, I went in saree itself.

I reached there by 9.10pm. He was eagerly waiting for me. As he saw me in saree he dropped his jaw and asked me whether have i come for headshave really. I replied yes in a slight tone as i got tensed once i entered the saloon. Then he pulled down the screen on the glass door so that no one sees that i´ m doing head shave in men´ s saloon.

Then he asked me to sit in the rolling chair comfortably. I asked him whether do i need to untie my plaited hair. He smilingly said no, by filling water in the sprayer. Later he brought a black lengthy cloth and tied it on my neck covering my clothes and body.

By 9.15pm, he untied my plaited hair and combed it for 5mins with hair brush. Then he came back and sneaked his fingers into my scalp and massaged in a rolling manner for few mins. Then he took the sprayer and sprayed water on my front side of hair above my forehead. Later he sprayed on the right side and left side by taking sprayer iinside my hairs and atlast finished it at the back. he sprayed for more than 2mins and quickly sprayed almost half litre of water.

then again he started dabbing my head with his hand and massaged my head. I was really excited to experience this. I was smiling and he asked me why - I said i liked this style of massaging. Then he took hairbrush and brushed the hair from front to back. he didnt make partition of hair and didn´ t put a knot in the hair. then he made a hair bun on my head and sprayed some more water on the hairbun. When i asked him why, he said that it would be irritating for you if the hair is not softened before shaving. Then he took a new razor and fixed a new blade in it.

The moment he took the razor in his hand. there was some sadness as i am going to loose my lengthy hair and there was some eagerness to feel the experience of GUNDU. By 9.30pm, He untied the bun and turned the chair so that i dont see the mirror. Then he kept the razor on my forehead and asked me to close my eyes if i´ m afraid or frightened. I said no in a loud voice. Immediately he started to scrap the razor from front of my head to back. then he shifted on to the right and left side by side. I was really sad cum excited when long hair fell on the cloth. Everytime the razor scraped my head i liked that scrapping sound. i felt that my head was kept inside a freezer of the fridge as i felt very chill while shaving. Soon i felt some weight has been reduced from my head. by 9.40pm, i thought everything got over. Then he rubbed his hand on my head and i asked him whether is it over. he said no. Then he took shaving gel(some kind of stuff from GILLETTE) and applied it on my scalp. Then he changed the blade and now he scraped it in the opposite direction(from back to front). Later he completed by scrapping it on my cheeks on the face. Then he took the cloth that was tied to my neck and rubbed my GUNDU and face with a towel. Now he rolled the chair so that i could see my new GUNDU face. I was really flabbergasted to see my new face and i really liked it. As i was wearing saree, i really liked it to pose bald head in saree. Then after paying him, i came home. He asked me to cover my GUNDU with saree´ s pallu. Fortunately no one saw me as the streets were empty by 9.55pm, so i didnt cover my GUNDU with saree´ s pallu. I enjoyed the chill air that passed my head. My mum saw and she hugged me saying that i looked pretty in saree with head shave. She asked me to go to coll in sarees till hair grows for 2inches. I said YES happily. For my excitement, she said that the barber would come and shave me once in 3 days for the next 10 days and also asked me to shave it to SUPER SMOOTH SHINING again on the previous day of coll reopening.

dear mam

I have gone through yr message and replies. Due to infection ur head was itching. u also informed that ur hair is upto thighs. Very long hair.

IT is very sad for you to sacrifice yr hair. But in order to get rid of the itching as per doctor advise u go for headshave then apply medicines in your bald head then only u will get healing.
Local barber asked u to come to barbershop. Being a gal it is difficult to go for shop.U may ask him to come to your house. some local barbers may come to home and do that.
SInce they have equipments in shop for make shave. that is why they ask tocome to shop.
Since they are doing the work they will do it very nicely. SO dont bother they will do it with utmost care. U may enjoy the headshave with courage. Once u have it done u may enjoy the same with bald head. After headshave the cool breaze which cross yr head u may feel the comfort.
Any how i pray that no more itching after shave and apply medicines regularly.

Hey Sarathy, thanks for replying.. I was a bit frightened when he asked me to come to the shop. But after reading your reply am a bit happy to shave my head. Just now gave my hair a last wash.. I´ m drying it now.. The barber asked me to come after 9pm as no men would be there in the shop. So counting my minutes for 9pm.

Hi Sarenya. I read ur msg and felt too bad for your situation.
So, you had tried all possible ways that you can to get rid of the problem which is of no use rite.?
So, If it is the case then go ahead and shave your head.. as there is no other alternative/ option for you to re-think it. I can understand your pain but it is for your wellbeing.
Once when u r done with the shave u will feel bad/ shy initially., later u will get accustomed with your new look. Now a days it(bald head) has become the fashion statement. So don' t panic to get shave. Ok

So, Sarenya finally when & where are you planning to get your Gundu??

You are right ramya, i´ ve planned to get my gundu done tonight or tomorrow. But again a prob, the parlour near my house are not doing head shave for gals. My mum consulted the local barber who works in men´ s saloon. He came and saw my hair yeaterday and asked me to come to his shop as i have very long hair. First i got tensed and panic to do head shave, but after gaining courage to go for head shave, here is the thing which bothers me again. I dont know how will i go and do head shave in men´ s saloon.

Ramya have done head shave... Did you do it in college days... How was the response... Will it pain when they shave...

Noother way than to shave

I have consulted dermatologist, they gave medicines to apply on to my roots. but the prob is as i have thick dense hair, the medicines is not reaching the roots. So no treatment can further be done. then only doctor suggested me to shave.. very much worried to loose my thigh length hair..
