This is Arun. I want to share a recent tonsure experience of mine.
I am working in a firm in chennai. I am 28 years old and my parents reside in coimbatore. they were looking for a girl for me. to my knowledge i have seen 2-3 girls till then after the horoscope match and all. My parents used to get the horoscopes from brokers and match and send me the photos if matched for my opinion.
This was happening for the past one year. One day, it was a normal weekend and i went home. I reached home early in the morning around 6. As usual, took all my dresses for washing.
When i reached home, i had seen 2 cars waiting at home. My aunts have come. I was so happy to see them. Then only i came to know that they were planning to see a girl for me. Then i saw the photo and she was good looking. Then we have decided to go there that day. It was in a place near palani. We all have gone and saw the girl.
The girl was pretty good and i had a chat with her for an hour. She was in my frequency and i agreed for the marraige. Then the mediator came to us and told that they are also ok for the marraige. Seems like that the girl' s house, they have already made an thorough analysis on me and just after seeing me, they also confirmed.
We have jsut gone there to see the girl, but it turned out to be my engagement. We got engaged and the marraige is planned from 6 months from then as she has to complete her college. She will graduating in 6 months time. We were all happy and we started from the girls house.

On the way back to our house, we crossed the palani temple. I dont know what happened to my mom. She was in my car and she immediately got my phone and called ppl in other car to come to the palani temple. She directed me to go to the temple. I coudlnt understand anything but still, since it is going for temple, it was like a family get together and so i drove to the temple and parked the car. There the ppl in other car waited for us.

Once we got down, my mom immediately took me and my dad to a textile showroom nearby the temple. She asked me to take a readymade shirt and dhoti and inners for me and my dad. She took a saree for her. I couldnt understand anything.
Me and my mom were in the showroom and we came out and started walking towards the adivaaram. She made me to stop near the tonsure area \" Mudi Kaanikai Seluthumidam\" . I still couldnt understand anything. She called my dad and other who were waiting in parking lot to come to that area. Everyone came in 5 minutes time.
She asked me to go and get three tickets for mottai. I asked \" amma...enna solringa. 3 ticket mottaika???\" . She told yes. I was shocked. I asked her \" Seri..yaaru antha 3 per mottai podrathu?\" . She told its for me, her and my dad. I was really shocked. My dad immediately agreed for this and he did not show any reaction. I was shocked and sat in that place itself. I dont know how to respond to this. All my relatives are gathered there and i cant go and fight against my mom. My marraige is fixed 6 months down the line. How can i tonsure now.?? I was literally in a dilemma state.

then my mom told me \" Kanna. Tension aagatha. It is not a shocking news for all. Its for you only. You dont know how much pain me and your dada are facing when we are looking for a girl. Almost i have a bunch of horoscopes but nothing is matching for you. we are vexed. Finally we got this horoscope. It was matching. When we came to know that the place is near palani, i had an intention in mind that if this allaince succeeds, let all three of us tonsure in palani for muruga after marraige. Luckily it was succeeded. We have 6 months time also for marraige. today it was actually a normal girl seeing day but it turned out to be your engagement which i did not think for at all. All these are Kadavul kirubai. He has given a surprise to us. Let us give it back to him by fulfulling my vow immediately. Anyway 6 months is there for your marraige and nothing is going to happen for your hairstyle. You and ur dad will get back ur hair to its normalcy before marraige. Please kanna..dont say NO. Please listen to amma' s words.\" . I dont know what to say. She had a valid justification for tonsure. That too everything happened unexpectedly. I did not want to hurt her faith and feelings but at the same time i did not want to go bald in front of my friends and fiance. Then this came to my mind. We are guys and we will anyway get back our hair in 3 months time. But think of amma. She has a knee long hair and for her, if she is tonsuring, it will take minimum of 4 years to get back her hair. She will be in jsut a boycut state in 6 months during the marraige. She is readily shaving her head. Then why shudnt i. It will be embarrasing for me for just 10 days. After that it is usual for me. So i decided to shave my head. I went to her and told, \" Amma, neenga sonna mathiriyae, naan mottai adichukuren. Naama 3 perum mottai pottukuvom. Enaku sammadam\" . She and my dad was so happy. All our relatives were also happy to hear this. They did not expect that i will easily agree and i shud be pushed for the tonsure.

Then happily i went and bought 3 tickets for 30Rs and i was given a token and 3 half blades. Then i gave one to my mom and one to my dad and all three of us went to the barbers who are free.
Then amma told that lets all put mottai at the same barber. Time is not a deal. She asked me to sit first. I went to my mom and asked her to stand near my dad and got their blessings. Then i went to the barber and sat in front of him cross legged. He got the blade and made his razor ready. Then he poured water on my head and started massaging. My whole head is wet. Then he asked me to think of muruga in mind so that he will start his process. I asked him to proceed and thanked muruga for what he has done. He started in the middle of the head. I was feeling the razor playing on my head. In three minutes time, my entire head is done. Then he shaved my beard, mustaches and arm pits. I was completely done in 5 minutes. Then is the turn of my dad. He sat and he is also done like me in 5 minutes. Then it is the turn of my mom. She had never tonsured in her lifetime and it is the first time she is going to lose her beautiful hair. I started crying when she was about to sit. I told her \" Amma. You were doing all these for me alone right. God has given a good allaince for me and i have tonsured as said. Also dad has done. Do you really want to lose your hair. I cant see you without hair jsut for me\" . She told \" illa da. Ithu naama muruganuku tharom. Nee alugatha\" . She sat in front of the barber. He wetted the hair and he started massaging. Since the length is too big, he made two knots. then he started shaving from the top leftknot. In a time of 5 mintues, her entire top is white. Then he did the back of the head. In a period of 8 minutes, her beautiful hair is lord muruga' s. She was looking very pretty and beautiful in her new appearance. She got up and we all took bath and wore the new dress.
Then we applied sandal on all three of our head and we were looking gorgeous. We went to the hill by walk and had a wonderful dharshan.
Then came back to home and when i went to office, that mondya, all were making fun of me. I was least bothered.
I started talking to my fiance and told her the whole story. She was indeed very much interested to see all three of us bald. We are planning to go to her house again in anotehr 10 days. We started talking.
Waiting for marraige in anotehr 5 months time.

Just wanted to share my exp of our family mottai.
My marriage got over on July 2nd. After our marraige when we completed all our formalities of visits after marriage we went to my wife' s house near palani. There my wife informed me that she was very happy to hear if my mom' s activity of tonsure 6 months back after the engagement. She also told bat her wish. She had a vow for tonsure at palani after her 12th class but she cudnt make since she has joined college. Then during college when she asked her parents they told no as they were plannin for her marriage. So it was not fulfilled at all. She asked me if she can fulfill her vow. I checked with my mom and she is very happy to hear this. She felt very proud and told that we all can undergo mottai ie me, mom, dad and my wife. She told let' s not postpone and we can do this on on 10th July as it was sunday and next month wud b aadi and we cannot do it. I was surprised to hear this. Then we informed this to my wife' s house. They were intact thrilled and they told us that they will also undergo a family tonsure as it is afterall for god. Enga ponnae mottai podra. Avalukaga neenga ellarum mottai podringa. Saamiku thaanae. Naangalum mottai potukurom. We were surprised to hear this. Finally it was 6 of us who planned for mottai. We went to palani on jul 10th and went to the tonsure area and got 6 tokens. First went my wife and she came bald in 8 mins. She was gorgeous. Then went and turned bald. Then my parents went and became bald. Since we had our mottai very recently we did not have that much hair.then my wife' s parents went for tonsure. Then they also came bald headed. We were all very happy as both our families were mottaied. We went to the temple and had good Darshan and thanked god for all his help for us. Not yet joined the office after marriage. Curios to know how my friends behave after seeing me bald headed. But I m bold enough and declared that none of us shud cover our mottai with cap or scarf. It was altogether an amazing experience
