Skin Talk:To be fair skinned.......

I haven't visited the site for a while so I've been having a read through the messages over the past week or so.

Without getting too heavy I need to ask, is it really that vital for you or your child to be born with fair skin? and if so why?
I can only assume that you beleive lighter complexioned people to be more beautiful (please correct me if you disagree). I find it very disturbing to hear that in 2006 there are people that still have this view - are you not proud of who you are?

as for the comments that have been made - I don't think it was rude - but simply someone elses opinion which we should all respect and no they shouldn't apologise - I don't think they said that because of their own dark complexion or dark child!!

Before you start making assumptions about me I have medium to fair skin and am very happy with my colouring. My Sister has very very fair skin and complains because she cannot stay in the sun too long because she will burn.

I would like to know what people think, is fair more beautiful?

I'm new here. I never knew that quite a few indians wanted their skin lightened. I can understand that one desires to be two or three shades lighter but turning almost white or even, dare i say, albino is dangerous. one of the most important things your pigment in your skin protects you form is skin cancer. thats why i'm not too much bothered about having a ever darkening skin complexion.

I have to agree with shocked towards some extent. you should be proud of what you are. but yet one has to respect others decisions. I say if your unhappy with yourself then change it. It's better to live happy then to live unhappy.
personally i don't have too much of problem with my skin. I have medium brown skin complexion but most of the time in the summer, my skin becomes very dark. Very often the tan doesn't come off until just before the summer of the next year... every year i become darker than the last. other people don't seem to mind my color. so its not too much of a problem with me. but one main reason why i would like to have a bit lighter skin is becuase of acceptance in society. here in america its easier for ligher skin individuals to get things such as better jobs, racial tollerance, meaning there is less of a resentment from people who dislike darker skin poeople, etc.

Though it is true that many want to be fair, that's not everything in life. What matters at the end of the day is how true you are to yourself. It's crazy to fight over this. Pls stop.

dear shocked,
that person definitely needs to apologise.no doubt, she has a right to portray her opinion but who gave her the right to blame razia's motherhood?she hurted razia's feelings by saying 'what kinda mother r u?'.dont u think it would be unbearable for any mom?
if she really wanted, she could have given her piece of mind in a respectable, friendly manner.
i hope u understand and yes,she SHOULD apologise.
with best wishes n loadsa luv,
urs,

Actually, I love my life which is why I'm not concerned about the exact shade of my skin. If I was black as tar I'm sure I'd still be happy with who I am - in fact my husband is a dark skinned Jamaican - I ahve absolutely no issue with skin colour - but clearly you do until ignorant people like yourself continue to to think this way we will always experience racism - you don't seem to realise the bigger picture here - but clearly you're too stupid to have a conversation with me - I won't be visiting this site again.

hi......
of course being fair doesn't mean being beautiful..but being fair skinned does mean ur not all that bad looking...just imagine a dark skinned person with all bad fearures like shapeless nose, big mouth,,etc nobody will agree they are presentable but imagine the same with a fair skinned person(same features as above)atleast they wont look that bad, though they cant be called beautiful...now many may say that beauty is all about personality n the way we carry ourselves.that s true to an extent, but as soos as we a person we r not going to assess her personality by saying \";ho!let me just talk to her to see if she s beautiful!!!!\";,but most of us decide beauty by face alone(I didn't mean skin colour)so i guess to alot extent alot of people like being fair skinned.........but some people though they no this is true don't like to agree ......
this is just my opinion..many may aree & many disagree..that's wat life is all about.............

Thank you for feedback - I'm not obsessed at all with colour but clearly if you read back through the messages as I did, other people put great emphasis on being fair. FYI my sister does go out however she complains when in teh sun she burns - was simply stating a fact - as for "medium to fair" well it all depends on what I'm doing at what time of year it.

I don't visit this site to get tips on how to get fair - I originally visited to pick a name for my child but I find the discussion to be interesting at times so I come back.

Personally I'm much happier in the sunshine when my skin all over is darker - I feel healthier and generally much happier.

I'm not complaining just asking - is it really that important to others if they're fair or dark. All you had to do was give an opinion on the subject, instead you choose to make a personal attack - which is fine - to be expected. But again, thank you for your comments.
