Due Date Club September 2007:Do´ s and Dont´ s

Gals,
Does anyone know abt the diet/exercise and other general do' s and dont' s? Maybe ur parents/elders told u abt or u read somewhere or ur doc advised soemthing...

As far as I know, heaty foods should be avoided. Some fruits like papaya, pineapple, mango etc should be avoided(atleast in the 1st trim). Doctors here dont advise this(they say all fruits are good) but back home in India, I' ve heard this.

Also lifting heavy weights should be avoided.

Please add to this list girls if anyone knows anything.

Take care
Rakhi

my doctor told me i can exercise as much as i want, except for extreme sports like horse riding and skiing.
anyway.. my mom who' s a gynaec in india said no heavy exercise.... so i' m taking the less risky advice and taking it easy.. though i do enjoy a walk regularly...

i have also heard about pineapple and papaya.. mango! i' ll add that to the list too..
the doctor here said to avoid some soft cheeses which carry the risk of listeria.
and no raw salads from the supermarket-you can have salad made at home if it' s fresh and well washed.
also nothing that has been stuck in the fridge for a long time.. because listeria tends to lurk in the fridge..
hmm.. and no raw fish like shushi...

and then since i had a lot of gas... my GP .. who is half indian said.. no Dal.. it causes gas! and also broccolli and cauliflower.

so basically.. i am scared to eat anything apart from good old home cooked food... sans dal :-(

anyway.. the more you search the more you find foods you cannot eat... i found somewhere that spices and herbs also cause problems... which listed things like dalchini, lemon grass, and cloves which you should' nt eat when pregnant.. well... i' ve already been eating them so don' t know what to do..
also some fish needs to be avoided because of the mercury content!!!
and coffee, tea and drinks containing caffeine- like colas!

anyway... i think as long you stick to cooked food and food for which you know exactly what was put in it... it should be safe.. at least that' s what i am doing after being paranoid for long!!

just take it easy.. and enjoy
love
ira
