hi all

i hv completed 38 weeks and hv stepped into my 39th week now. my gynao says that babys head has not yet engaged and its still mobile. however its in cephalic (head down) position.

Pls let me know wat shd be done for the head to get engaged? if we climb steps, will it work? i hv started taking milk with ghee from the past 2 days.

pls suggest me as i wanted to try my best to hv a normal delivery as i fear if the babys head doesnt engage i may b asked to go for c-section.

one info - my gynao said that my baby is a big baby - i think it might b a 8 pounder (i mean around 3.5 kgs).

waiting for all ur suggestions.

cheers
saradha

Hi saradha

Head can get engaged once labor starts. That' s how it was for me.Nishta was high above during my 38th week exam and the next day I went into labor. She came out vaginally though. If your baby is in cepahlic position and is anterior then you are good.Did your Ob tell you in which station you were?
You can still climb stairs 3 times a day,go for long walks -atleast 3 miles a day,do squats 5 times day of 5 mins sessions each. These might help getting the baby engaged and help you dialate.
Also with ghee and milk, drink red raspberry leaf tea 3x a day.It helps in regular contracting of uterine muscles.
I read in your other message that you are off the board for a while.
Good luck to you and your baby and wishing you a speedy and easy labor and a fast recovery post partum

hi da

how r u and nishta. read ur other msgs in march board... wat did ur consultant say? i am sure very soon u will b able to do bf. and my mom is also set for pathiya sapadu for me after delivery. she has already went and bought all medicines.

and i am advised to take garlic and beetal leaves with sunnambu - ie., what we call chunna in hindi(calcium) after delivery to increase the milk supply of mom.

and so many other home medicines like turmeric, lehiyam and kanji :( are there in the line..

anyways i think ur consultant will help u out in ur bf. and hope u r out of ur postpartum blues very soon... enjoy ur motherhood with nishta and ur dh da. never feel guilty. u r faultless.

and coming to my case - ya, i am going on maternity leave from tomorrow. actually i am supposed to go meet my gynao this sat or sunday. but i plan to meet her on tues or wed as by wednesday i´ ll complete 39 weeks and in the mean time from tomorrow onwards i´ ll take long walks as u suggested. also i´ m planning to clinb stairs. i started taking milk with ghee from this monday onwards. only thing is i dont drink tea... so raspberry tea is ruled out. i take coffee and milk. now after pregnancy i shifted from coffee to complan.

as my head is in cephalic position - i hope things will go on well. let me keep my fingers crossed. but i think without my knowledge pressure surmounts on me bcos i am so biased over VB. however my dh is very sweet tat and he trys to keep me cool and helps me to b open for both and at the same time tells me tat i´ ll deliver only by VB which makes me feel comfortable. let me keep my fingers crossed.

Thanx a ton for all the suggestions and moral courage u gave me dear.

cheers
saradha

Hi Saradha,
dont worry abt the baby' s head not being engaged.Baby' s head might even get engaged only few minutes before the labour pain starts. so dont worry be happy and am sure u will have a normal delivery.. last but not least i think rather than thinking abt a normal delivery or a c-section we sud be more thinking abt a safe delivery .. whichever is the best for the baby and us. so trust ur doctor dont get anxious and leave everything on God.

I have also stepped into 39th week from today. for the past few days am down with rashes known as pregancy rashes specific reasons unknown to medical science.. its has spreaded in the entire lower abdomen and spreading now in the entire belly.. all reports r normal though.
its very itchy and uncomfortable but the doc said everything is going to be fine after delivery.. these rashes will automatically vanish once the baby is born. and as of now baby is fine.. My BP is playing funny at times.. its in a bit higher side so i will again go for a check up next week and if the BP persists to be on the higher side then they mite think of inducing labour. but as of now they said relax dont think much.. so am trying to take things as it comes.. i am sure GOD will do the best for me and for all of us here. AMEN
take care dear
Sharmistha

thanx a lot for ur soothing words.

catch_sb: Since u sais u will b induced by 39th week, then i think i can hear ur updates by 5th. all the very best. i shall pray for u da. Ask ur dh to post the news as we all can know.

sheetal - wat u r saying is right. healthy baby is more important. however i do expect it to get fixed just b4 the labour. let me keep my fingerrs crossed and wait.

Hi
I am from the Nov 2006 board..
I had a similar prob..i.e the baby´ s head did not get fixed because it was very big. The doc said it may get fixed even after the labour pains start..or may not get fixed at all because of its large size. Mine unfortunately did not get fixed but dont worry...2 still have 2 good weeks to go & as such its more important that the baby is born healthy than how he/she was delivered. You should be happy that ur baby will have a good birth weight & a hence a strong immune system!!!
All the best!!!

Ans Sarmistha...about your itching...try caladryl lotion. It helped my bhabhi...she had the same problem
Luv
Sheetal
