Due Date Club April 2007:It´ s going to be a march baby

Hi All,
I got another scan done 2 days ago and the baby' s growth was not good. The baby had put on only 30gms in a week and the abdomen is almost static for past 3 weeks. The head growth is fine and according to date. The fluid and the doppler was also ok but the ultrasound doctore just looked at me and said, the growth is very less.
Any way, my doctor has now decided that since the baby is not growing very well for more than 3 weeks, it will be better for the little one to be outside than inside. So, I am scheduled for a c-section on monday 26th March at 7:30 in the morning. I am feeling a bit nervous and I am praying that my little one comes out safe and healthy and doesn' t have to spend too much time in NICU.
BTW, does anyone know what the relation between gestational diabetes and low birth weight and growth is? Because I was told initially that mothers with GD have larger than normal babies and that is why they deliver them by 38 weeks. But now everyone is saying that the low growth is because of GD. My mother has come last week and she is not very happy about the strict diet that my GD doc is making me follow and she thinks that there is nothing in the diet that allows for any weight gain. And I have to say that I have had a lot of low blood sugar episodes (when my sugars suddenly fell to less than 50) in the past one month and inspite of that the diabetes doc did not really lower the insulin amount much.

Hi Kalika

Im from the march board. I just wanted to wish you all the very best and you are going to have a beautiful and healthy baby. You and your baby are in my prayers.
Regarding GD ,I was diagnosed with GD (rather wrongly diagnosed) and was on restricted diet . I was told I was going to have a big baby and told to watch my numbers. There have been a lot of times when my BS reading were low ,(I tend to think I was wrongly diagnosed) ,so I decided to eat an extra meal. In my last 1 month and a half I ignored the diet and ate whatever my mom made coz she thought what I ate was too less. My baby was only 6lbs and 10 oz when I was told to expect a 8 pounder.
So if youre BS levels goes below 110 ,go ahead and eat a combination of carbs and protein. Your dietician is insane to let your BS go below 50. Its important to have numbers that are 90 or more(90-130) after 1 hour.
Now since you are going for a scheduled c section, enjoy all you can,coz once your lil one is here, you have a big list of don' t !!!
Wish you had posted about your GD earlier ,I would have loved to share my diet and given you some websites that has some excellent pointers.
Anyway, have fun with your kiddo in your utero and enjoy the kicks and squirms.

Heyy Kalika,
All the best gal! Dont worry, everything will be fine. thats the best part about a planned C-section. everyone knows what they are doing. and the bonus is.. you know exactly when your baby is coming.Everything will be fine. how many weeks are u? here the nurses have been telling me that after 36 weeks they will not stop the labour and so the baby will be full term. Now, just get ready to shift to mommy gear! n its great that u have ur mom around!
sending u lotsa lve n positive vibes. and waiting for ur update n birthstory!

hi dear

i am not very sure abt the relationship between GD and baby' s corresponding growth. from the sites i came to know moms with GD will hv big babies and hence will deliver earlier. thats the limited knowledge i hv on GD.

anyways, when the doc feels that it will b good if kid comes out then lets go with her as we are no experts. however on one hand i feel happy for u as u would b around 34 weeks, which is like more ok for the little one.

anyways as i was always telling u - believe in the Almighty - surrender to him completely - HE will definitely ensure that both u and ur lil one to be safe and healthy and tat matters most and not abt the dates.

ask ur hubby or someone to update on the board abt the arrival of ur lil one as we all would be eagerly awaiting to know the same.

best wishes for a safe delivery and a HEALTHY baby.

cheers
