hi guys..

we' ve had endless number of discussions on this topic but i really need some breakthrough ideas on this one.. WHAT DO I DO FOR BACKACHES AT NIGHT? gosh, it' s killing me.. when i wake up in the morning, i have a sore back.. and only after my hubby massages my back a bit only then i feel some relief.. this is all because of tossing and turning onto my sides.. i have tried stuffing a pillow between my knees while sleeping on my sides.. i have tried stuffing it below my back to give me some sort of support.. but nothing seems to be helping.. and now i cant even sleep on my back coz i feel an uncomfortable sensation in my abdomen.. IS THIS THE END OF RESTFUL SLEEP?

Hi girls,

Seems like this problem is quite common during pregnancy. I do not have any backaches or leg cramps right now. I had it during my first trimester though. But right now, sleeping in a right position is quite frustrating. I sleep on my left side as much as possible. But do change positions and sleep on my right side too in the middle of the night. But as soon as I sleep on my back I get suffocated and breathless and it disturbs my entire sleep.

I have also tried all possible pillow tactics but of no use. Also, stretching gives me temporary relief but it does not help at night. My doctor told me to sleep on a firm mattress, also while sitting its better to sit on a firm cushioned chair with back support rather than sitting on those soft comfy couches . Couches can really aggravate the backache. Also its best to sit and walk straight as the weight of the baby pulls our back and shoulders forward and gives a slight bend to our backs.

I think if all this does not help, we will have to bear with it, it comes with the pregnancy package.

hi lalitha, reema & deepa,

thanks guys! lalitha, i think i have the restless leg syndrome too.. and do i have serious leg aches at times.. i' m reasonably fit and weigh as per my frame.. and i' ve never encountered any back or leg problems before.. so this definitely due to pregnancy.. i hear you on all that you are going through and feel assured that i' m not alone in this..though i do hope we can get better sleep than we are getting at the moment but i guess it just comes with the package and we need to really come to terms with it..

deepa, i do walk daily for half an hour.. it helps for sure.. i try to do some safe stretches as well so i don' t get stiff in the back and joints.. it is helping but i guess yoga will really further reduce the pain..

reema, i do use a pillow but i end up kicking it around all night.. will try taking a warm shower before i hit the sack.. have also started drinking milk at night so it kind of soothes and relaxes me before bed..

thanks again! :)

Hi riya! dont know a sure remedy but try sleeping with a pillow for ur legs to rest. wen u sleep on ur left make sure u slightly bend ur knees and do not twist and turn too much wen u sleep. if u are trying to turn to right sit up straight and then lie on ur right. do not try sleeping on your back. i have severe leg cramps at night. but slight warm water bath at night helps you relax.

Hi Riya

Sorry i dont have any solution. Just wanted to cry along... I am going through exactly the same issues.. I have been told I will get used to it (sleeping on the sides), but that doesnt seem to be happening. Finally I fall asleep due to fatigue, and sometimes end up sleeping on my back simply because I dont care at that point of time...
I have yet another problem-restless leg syndrome. I have always had it, but now it has intensified!!

Someone give rememdies...

Lalitha
