Name: Trupti

Hi everybody,

I am due on 25th Jan 2007.

I am diaognsed with Gstational Diabetes and I have to take Insulin injections 4 times a day.. before breakfast, lunch and dinner I have to take 8 units of short acting Insulin - \";Humulin R\"; and at bed time 40 units of Insulin \";Lantus\";

I check my blood sugar with \";Advantage Accu Check\"; before every meal and after 1 hour of every meal, the numbers keep on varying, before meal my numbers are fine and between 90-110 but 1 hour after meal it shoots up and goes beyond the 140 limit- it is always between 150-160. I am maintaining proper diet also, I dont know what to do to keep it in control. Please help and advise what is the best can be done.

Hi Trupti
I have also been diagnosed with GD in my 24th week. Following diet to the 'T' has not kept sugar levels in check. I now take insulin shots (novolet actipid pen) 3 a day. 12-12-10 units (total 34 units in a day). Also I check sugar fasting (as soon as I wake up 7:30 am) and thereafter post 1 hr of b-fast, lunch, dinner with a glucometer.
Please do not get stressed. That affects sugar metabolism. I know what one goes through when the sugar reading comes in the 160+ range. Its a mixture of panic, guilt and worry. Please stay strong and be calm
Nowadays doctors (hope u are seeing a sp.diabetologist besides regular Gyn) are well versed on how to deal with GD cases as they see several occurences.
Please check with your diabetologist after every 2 successive high sugar reasings (I call my doc with readings every 3 days). She may increase the insulin dosage.
I also do the following that helps_
1) Monitor what I eat entire day (sometimes even prescribed diet doesn't work - like oats n chicken make my sugar come high)
2) Walk for 20 mins after each meal. I start walking after 15 mins of finishing the food.
3) Strictly maintain 2 hour time gap between each snack or meal.
4) Drink a supplement called d.proteinx (for diabetics)
5) Stay cheerful. Our babies are stronger than we think.

Cheer up
Warm regards
Shonalie
