I am new to the forum. Thank you for describing your experience of real boycuts. Inspired by your experience I could have a similar \" machine cut\" which I wanted to have so long but somehow was hesitating. Thank you for the inspirations. Do you continue with your boycut\"

Thanks for the letter. Ramya had smooth head shaves in the barbershop on 20th July, 3rd, 17th and 31st August and 14th Sep. Her hair has become much denser and a shade thicker. Hoping to make it a little more thicker, on 1st Oct, we got her head (with her happy approval) closely clippered to skin. Our barber did it first with big clippers and then with smaller clippers. Of course, he is so skilful with it my daughter fully enjoyed it. Her head feels great to touch - like sand paper. And no more haircut this month for her. Early November she will have her first crewcut, like her brothers.
And now myself. In the 12 weeks since my Tirumala tonsure, my hair had grown to about one and half inch all over. Yesterday (2nd Oct) early morning (6-15) my ten year old fantasy of a clippered boycut for myself was realised. And am I happy!
I took my hubby (now he is cleanshaven, he has conceded my request of no moustache) along to the barbershop. I was the first customer and I sat in the chair, anticipation on one hand and nervousness on the other. As the barber draped me with a cloth, two customers entered the shop. I had thought that I could get away before anyone entered. But no such luck. I could see their astonished faces in the mirror.
Still nervously but with a smile (these things once decided had to be done with firmness, no running away) and a blushing face, I pointed to about an inch above the top of my ear and said ' machine till here and about half inch short all over, about an inch in the front.' With a smile he bent my head to the left, placed the teeth of the hand operated clippers in front of my ear and started operating the lever while pushing it up. Oh! I had thought this may pain a little but no. It felt really great. He took it up to a little beyond where I had indicated (with a slope) and almost a bald patch had appeared in front of the right ear. While one of the men had taken a seat for a shave by another barber, the second' s jaw had dropped - seeing a lady getting a machine cut.
The barber continued his clipping on the right side - above the ear, behind the ear, etc. I deliberately avoided seeing the man' s face in the mirror,
rather saw my husband suppressing a giggle. I decided to enjoy the cut
rather and looked down. The barber tilted my head down and clippered the
rear side. Another fine feeling! I thought he had gone too high but I had
full confidence in the barber that he would do a good job. Then he tilted my
head to right, repeated on the left side what he had done on the right side.
The cluk-cluk noise of the machine sounded like a song in my ear and I
thoroughly enjoyed the clippering.
Now, he wetted my top hair and with scissors and comb started cutting it
close. In about 10 minutes he had scissored my top hair neatly to half inch allover with proper slope towards the machined places and slightly longer in front. With difficulty I controlled my own giggle at what I saw in the mirror. A female with a pucca boyish cut! How could I blame others if they thought I looked funny? Anyway I was determined that I would go through with it.
The barber asked whether the sides were short enough. I took out my hand
from under the sheet, ran my fingers on the back and sides and compared with what I felt on Ramya' s head on Wednesday. Having come this far, I thought I would take the plunge and I asked him to make the sides and back closely clippered. He took a smaller set of hand clippers and clipped the sides and back of my head. He later touched up the transition with comb and scissors. I got out with a blushing face and a smile. My hubby paid the smiling barber. I came home rubbing my sandpapery nape and sides and the sharp ends of the freshly scissored top hair. My hubby giggled out loud once out of the shop. I joined him in the giggle. Everyone at home - f-i-l, m-i-l, the kids - made fun of me no end. But I had expected this. Of course, all said I did look good though strange. By evening I had got used to my own look - what with a strange haircut, earrings, earstuds, nose stud, bindi, sindhoor, saree. My m-i-l, her own hair about one and a quarter inch all over, felt happy to caress different parts of my head for different feel. And all my neighbours also giggled and laughed. One or two made wry faces. But I am determined not to take those things seriously.
Today in Bank, I had a tough time. As it was three months ago, most disapproved while surprisingly some, including the bank manager, told me I
really looked good though strange. Anyway with a lot of dare-devil I carried on with customers most of whom disagreed (I could judge from their looks). But no one objected to work along so no botheration.
Both my in-laws have fully supported my adventure. And my hubby ..... he is
really happy. \" I never thought that females would look so cute with such a
blatantly male hair cut\" he said. And I do not care whether hair pundits
call this crewcut, boycut, fade cut or whatever. I am thoroughly enjoying
it.

Hi Preeti,
Thank you so much for your experience which inspired me to no ends to have a similar " machine cut" which I wanted to have for many years but was hesitant. Your experience have removed that hesitation. Do you continue with the same boycut?

Dear ABC
Sure. After my first crew cut in early October, I had two more haircuts in the same barber shop, one on 2nd Nov and another on 30th Nov. On both occasions, it was almost a repeat of my Oct 2nd crew cut - clippered close to skin on sides and back and the top hair short. The only difference is that the hair on top is a little longer now, around an inch and a quarter. I can comb my top hair now into a boyish crop. I am extremely happy and most people are accepting my unusual appearance. I will keep this style - a monthly clippering on the sides and back - hopefully forever.
As for my daughter Ramya, she is sporting a boyish crewcut - clippered to skin to about an inch and a half above the ear and the top about half inch long all over. She had two such cuts after her Oct 1st clipper shave. And she is enjoying it. She will continue this style for some more time.

Hello,
It´ s unbelievable. you should have lot of guts for getting this man´ s version of haircut. By the way, did you get it done in any old barbershop where they don´ t have doors but just a screen.. ?The reasons is handclippers are almost outdated now and most shops now only have electric ones. I like handclippers and once in a while I get clipped using those clippers at the sides and back. In my place, there are only some old shops that has hand clippers and mostly when I get such clippered haircuts, the shop will be fully open and those on the road will see getting clippered.
