Me and my husband are expecting our first baby in Aug. In all likelihood we will have the delivery in Hyderabad. We want to have a normal delivery. Epidural is very popular to assist a normal delivery in USA.
Do you know any hospital or doctor who have used epidural for normal delivery in Hyderabad. I have gone thru the discussion boards on this website and learnt that Dr. Hemalatha of Parvathi Nursing Home, Secunderabad has a very good reputation in encouraging normal delivery. She has used epidural too. Please let me know if there are any other doctors you know of who use epidural. Other famous doctors I have heard of are - Dr Sharada Reddy(Apollo), Dr Priyamvada Reddy(Apollo), Dr Evita Fernandez(Fernandez Hospital), Dr Vindhya (Apollo)
Please let me know if you have come across these doctors or have heard of them using Epidural.

Congratulations! Yes, Dr. Evita Fenandez is very good, as is Dr. Suniti Satvalekar of Dr. Shantabai Nursing Home.

However, I would first recommend that you enroll yourself in a labor and birthing class, and learn about the pros and cons of epidural administration during labor. Yes, epidural does provide pain relief, but it also slows down the labor somewhat because you are usually in bed and not upright or mobile. In addition, you may be unable to push strongly, and this can lead to episiotomy and forceps delivery.

This is not to say that epidurals should never be taken. There are situations where the labor is stalled somewhat, and if the obstetrician feels that it would help to relive pain for a little while and let labor progress, then it may be appropriate.

Birthing classes usually have extended discussions about use of various pain relief options in labor, and they can help you talk to your obstetrician regarding appropriate choices for you. In addition, they will also teach you pain relief in labor through breathing, relaxation, massage and labor support.
