Miscarriage and Child Loss:AFP - Level2 sonogram

Hi,

My AFP test in first trimister came negative. They did again in Second trimister, it came out positive for trisomy 18. So my gynec suggested for level 2 sonogram. Yesterday they did this. Doctor said, Baby is just perfect. Physically she has no problem. everything is fine.

My doubt is should i go for Amniosis test or not.

And the doctor mentioned after screening, the chances of down syndrome and trisomy 18 are 1 in 10,280 cases.

How can I decide should I go for Amniosis or not.

I am 29 year old and my husband is 39 year old. Does it matters? and no one in my family are not having this problem

Please help me by giving your suggestions.

Thank you.
Savitha

I know very well about your confusion. Same happend with me last year. AFP positive, level 2 sonogram perfect. This was my 2nd pregnancy. I had a healthy and beautiful 3 year old girl. No family histroy of down syndrome. 1st time I backed out of schedulded amnio. I thought why to go for amnio when my sonogram is perfect. But again reconsidering the situation and thinking that what if sonogram is wrong, i wend through....outcome was trisomy 21. I went through termination at 24 weeks, very bad period in my life. My advise to you is to go for amnio and clarify your mind..Hope for the good result and if it is not prepare your mind for decision either way. But please do not depend on sonogram.

My best wishes and prayers are with you.

But then my sister went to various fertil... - Lillian [View Message]

RE:Three miscarriages in a year...
Hey Richa, hope you are doing well. I am sorry to hear about it.I know what you have gone through. Toughest period is when one is TTC.The worst part is the miscarriages and 3 of them makes it even more hard to cope with. I agree with your husband and would advice you to take a break also. Try to regain your health.Rushing into things wont solve them. Consult a specialist a... - katherine [View Message]
