Dear friends

If you remember I had told you guys that I am putting Rishi in Euro kids play school today. Well, it did not happen. I was so excited and my mom even got him school bag, water bottle, snacks box etc :( But in-laws and all in the family feel its too early and the school is far. Actually the school is not that far, may be 1/2 a km and it is on the way to my work place. I can drop him but someone has to go and pick him up at 11.30. We have to cross the signal for it and it is in a busy area, so Shyam himself is reluctant :(

I agreed and we went to a couple of schools nearby to enquire. I told Shyam clearly that anyway in June, he will start going to Nursery in Euro kids. We saw two schools and they said they can take him only after he completes 2 years and that if we are keen he can go for 1 hour daily.

I don't know if he will enjoy, because the other children are older. They are all above 2and a half.

I am so disappointed. I am yet to decide about his school though :( Or keep him at home till June. Is that a good option?

Even my dedline of Nov 1st didnt work!! I found the school and talked to the lady. I bought 2 extra bottles and towels and all that too... Gues what? Manmohan Singh is here today and the whole road is blocked. Tomorrow, i have to take Kich to the pe'd 'for his MMR.(which was postponed 'coz he was running frquent colds)

So its gonna happen only on monday.. But i'm gonna give it a try for sure. Even here everyone's telling me he's too young and all that. I've told them that it's a daycare too and he wont be made to learn anyhting as in a propoer school. He'll just spend time with other kids, have more variety in his day...

Why dont you tell Shyam, to let you try it for a week at least (tell eurokids that you'll pay the deposit after the trial). How can something be rejected without a trial? If need be, take your MIL or Shyam to Eurokids and show them that kids of Rishi's age are coming there and are perfectly fine! About crossing the signal, let them catch a rick till they're confident..

Persist with your idea till it is tried at least once. If it fails, we can accept and wait till the time is right na?

yeah i do remember that rishi was supposed to go to eurokids from today.well dunno what to suggest,but does eurokids allow someone from family to stay back with the kids for some days atleast.if they do maybe u can bring up the topic againwith ur family and see if ur mom or MIL willlike to stay with rishi in school. that way they dont feel they are leaving rishi in school too early and at the same time he gets used to a school enviro also.
well since i dont know much about eurokids etc i dunno how this suggestion will work but just thgt..BTW how different is preschool from the playgroups we have here.is the difference just in terms of u being with the child all thetime or u leaving him/her there.cos even my family was not too keen on rahul going to any playgroup[activity group ]etc.but since i stay with him all the time there and i told them that the purpose is just to get some social interaction cos thats what hes missing out here at home they kinda agreed and now are actually happy to see that he enjoys.

A reader replied. I am a mom and a regular reader of this board. Vani, I feel that you don't need to worry about preschools for Rishu until he is three if he is getting a good learning environment at home. But if he is not as its evident from a couple of your previous posts( like TV being on all the time), and if you are unable to discuss this issue with your in-laws and hubby then it makes sense to try a preschool. Find some good reasons to convince them, some articles written by experts which talks about the benefits of social interaction and the time away from TV. Casually discuss this with your husband without finger pointing to your in-laws and see if it makes any difference. All the best!!
