Due Date Club January 2005:Vani-bow legs and teeth
2006-06-09
Name: Reena
Dear Vani,
Rishu has bow shaped legs too and Puneet used to always point out to me (when Rishu started walking) that he doesnt walk properly. To me nothing seemed wrong at all. His pediatrician agreed that he is bow legged and refered us to an orthopaedic surgeon(didnt grasp why on earth would you go to a neurologist). Orthopaedic docs are doc who deal with bone realted problems and my FIL is one! This guy ( avery famous doc) foung nothing wrong with Rishu and said bow legged is very very common and it becomes OK by age 5. It is always better to get it checked out for our peace of mind but there is nothing to worry. A simple way to make it better is to pull both his legs towards you (like when we do maalish) and try and straiten them putting pressure with your middle finger on his knee. I really dont think I have explained this exercise properly so dont try it without asking the doc but any desi doc will tell you the same. Let him illustrate it for you.
Yes, I brush Rishu's teeth but am not super dilligent about it. He says the word 'brush' every morning when we enter the bathroom together and he gets his brush with oragel on it which he propmtly eats in a sec and then says 'more'. Yes, his vocabulury is exploding and he even told his friend who was bothering him to 'walk away' and told me the same when I was trying to sqeeze him! He repeats everything that we say!
Anyways, hope this helps, and hope you got my email and the 2 fwds I sent you earlier. Let me know as I didnt hear back from you..
Take care Reena

Vani replied. I did receive your reply and the other two fwds... keep the faith Reena, soemthing tells me that everything's gonna be fine. I am happy about Rishu too - about him grasping words and repeating. Actually thats the reason the doctor asked me to see a neurologist. Rishi does not even care to listen to us if we teach us soemthing. If he concentrates on something (lke seeing a bookor watching an ad) he does not even respond when we call him by name. My cousin who got married last week is an MBBS herself who has just finished her internship was concerned about it. Reena, you don't know how scared I am, I am least bothered about his knee bent or whatever, if it is a minor surgery that he has to go thru, that will scare me, but its ok. I can't think of Rishi having some disorder mentally... I think of all the folic acid, calcium and iron that I avoided when I was pregnant, afraid of puking. How silly I had been!
I called his doc yesterday and she has asked me to see her on tuesday or thursday. I am scared even to ask her, what if she says something. I try a lot to talk to him, teach him something, mom does that all the time. He seldom listens, in fact he is interested only in playing by himself, he will play with us, but he will not repeat anything. Till now he does not call me amma, but sometimes call my sister 'thie' for chithi(mausi).
My MIL still says its normal 'coz Shyam was very late in all milestones when he was a baby. My BIL's son is 2 and a half and only now he's saying amma, appa but still studious and fine. I am trying not to get worried, but its tough. I will update you after I see the doctor.
Chalo then, sorry for such a long mail. You cheer up and enjoy, I know how tough it is :( Take care of yourself, and see that you don't overwork and get tired. Kisses to Rishu darling.
Love u loads
