Due Date Club April 2007:Fungal infection
2007-01-23
Name: kb

Hi Archie and everyone,
I was asking Saradha all the questions about the mucous plug because I was passing very thick mucous over a couple of days. I also had a couple of contractions again but when I went to see the doctor, she did an internal examination and said that the mucous was due to a fungal infection. She said this is quite common if you have high sugar levels. She gave me some vaginal tablets to insert. Two days later I went for a bp check and told the doctor that I was passing a lot of discharge (enough for me to keep a pad). She did an internal check again and said that there was no fluid leak and this was only the discharge from the medicine and the inefection. But she felt that the amniotic fluid was less and sent me for an u/s. The ultrasound showed everything was fine. AFI = 13 (is that ok for 27+ weeks?) and the growth was according to date. The blood clot is still there though has not increased in size.
Archie, I wanted to know can a doctor just look and tell that there is a fungal infection without any tests? She later did a swab for culture and it came negative.
Also, the baby in the u/s was lying in the transverse position, totally horizontal, with head on the left side. Is that normal for now, will the baby move?
And is AFI= 13 ok? Can I do something to increase the fluid?
thanks
kalika
