Due Date Club November 2004:Let me know!!!!

Could anyone let me know if any of your parents or in-laws are traveling to India on May 1st week as my aunt is with me right now and she is leaving to India on May 9th from Newark, NJ to Hyderabad. And I have plans (again not sure as we are still debating on this) to send my daughter along with my aunt to India and I’ll be going to India in Jun and will come back with my daughter in July. But as my aunt can’t speak English and my daughter is such a brat these days I was worried if my aunt can handle all this so if anyone of your people are traveling in that week please let me know so I can send her along with my aunt.

Again, any comments: Is it safe to send her without me as this is the first time my daughter will be going to India, I’m worried about the weather in May as it will be hot in Hyderabad then. But my aunt takes very good care of my daughter and my mom will be there but again I’m still worried to send her alone. And on the other side if I didn’t send her, then no nanny is willing to come over for a month as when I’m back from India I’ll be coming with my in-laws ( so don’t need a nanny for more than a month) and also planning to put her in day care for couple of hrs initially after we come back. So if she doesn’t go to India with my aunt now where do I leave her as I’m working full time? So many doubts. My mom wants me to send her as she wants to spend time with my daughter but my husband is worried to send her without me. What do you guys say? Is it alright to send her in May to India or will it be too hot or will it not make any difference from May to June as I’ll be anyways going on June 9th to India. God….I know way too many questions. Thanks for your time and do let me know what you guys would do if you’re in my position?
1. will send her with to India with your aunt so I know they will take good care of her then any nanny’s or
2. not send her and do something here (nanny and trying coming back from work early etc) and take her with you when you go? WHICH IS BETTER?

its really tough dic. to make. As we know all the kisd r unique and mom has to decide acc.,considering issues like she is with ur aunt since how long? How immotionally she is attached to ur aunt. Is she is fine with ur aunt when not well or she needs mom? (As for my son he sits outside the toilet when i am in. )Heat is another issue . Here in bombay itself is too much hot and Haidrabad is even hotter. So if u have kept AC . at home it will not be a problem. Is she reserved type or friendly with all. If she goes to everyone then it will not be a problem in flight even.

I think it is better that you don't send her with ur aunt now. You can take her when u go to India. I went to India with my daughter for 2 weeks. After 1 week she fell sick and she lost her cheeks, had mosquito bite marks, etc. etc. Babies r fine to travel since they r totally on milk. Toddlers who r explorers r tough to handle. It takes a day for them to lose all their weight. So watch out. Also moms in india don't know what american baby can withstand. It is wise that u r there to keep her health.

If visa is the problem, u can try extending ur aunt's visa. If u apply now also(4 weeks before visa expiration) it is enough. Even if u just get a acknowledgement for ur application she can stay, no need for actual approval papers. In rare case if it is denied u'll get the notice in a month or two, it will be time for u to go to India. I did it for my mom and she got 6 months extension in 2 weeks after application submission.

Otherwise try some day care, play school or live in nanny etc. U'll find some option. Hv hope mommy.

dear devi,

ur situation is indeed very tricky...but i'd advice u that u plz work something out here and dont send ur baby without u....its going to harm her emotionally....she will not be able to get over her insecurities for a long long time....

we have been to india 3 times since her birth...it doesnt matter which season or which time...extreme care is imp there....if ur lucky u'll come back safe and sound.....i went to ind in feb without my husband for the first time....spent 22 days at my parents place and then met him in mumbai....first tintin refused to go to him....and when she finally realised it was her papa...she wudnt let go of him...now he just has to wear his shoes to make her go wild...she gets stuck to his legs and hawls....

ur baby may be safe and in good hands...but nothing compares to u :-)....dont do this to urself and ur child....

u still have a month to explore ur options...

i know we all are making it worse for u to decide....but my dear thats whats called LIFE....thinkup something....shes big enough for play schools...infact its better....my baby gets bored at home...im going to send her to play school for 2 hrs stating next month....may be more....u and ur hubby can make it work...cheers!!!

love
poonam

Hi Devi,
I took my daughter to india in May 2005 when she was 6 months and we stayed there for 4 months, we travelled alot there, and luckily she never got sick there, just once she got cold b coz of teething.
it totally depends on your comfort level to decide... whether to send her without u or not? its tough decision.. All the best!
