Due Date Club April 2007:Archie plz help !

This is the 1st time I'm writing to you cause I have seen ur replies to other queries and I trust your opinion. I'm in my 27th week now but last week(26th week) I experienced severe leg cramps similar to the ones I get before periods. Later I noticed blood when i went for a pee.It wasn't much but there was pinkish red spotting. I was very scared and rushed to the hospital where the baby's heart rate was monitored and the Dr did an internal investigation. She said the cervix was closed and there was no signs of premature labour so nothing to worry and the baby's hearbeat was strong. She did not however give me a reason for the bleeding and didn't recommend rest or anything. Just asked me to continue with my daily life saying many people experienced more bleeding but delivered full term anyway. I'm just a bit concerned as its my first pregnancy and my baby is very precious to me.Do you think I should just ignore this and carry on as normal? i have experienced cramps but no bleeding since then.
Thanks in advance Archie and others for taking the time to go through this. Would really appreciate any inputs you have.

Dear Shruti,
You did right thing by running to hospital and getting internal done along with foetal heart. I am glad both came fine.

Intermitant bleeding is quite common for some patients. I know some who says the last time she was happy when she knew she is pregnant and all worries started next day till the delivery. I know each baby is precious and being primigravidas you could be concerned on every aspect, redness in pee in the midst of pregnancy is last thing preggie would want it!

Leg cramps are absolutely normal and would get more severe hereonwards. Its due to lack of potassium and calcium. drink two glasses of fat free milk/day. you can divide one in the morning and other in the evening before bed. This would also help bring down heartburn if you experience.

What would help is some mild coconut oil massage followed by warm shower just before bed time.

bleeding might have been from dehydration or vaginal irruption. This can happen if you did not pay much attention on fluid intake and also stressed yourself a lot.

Because you may have had sonogram around 20 weeks and that your Dr. knows you are not having low lying placenta so she/he did not expect you to sleep in bed for weeks to avoid consequences.

If you face this one more time have your urine culture done.

Thanks for trusting my confidence, its really hard to comment strongly on any case because knowing case through letters is way different and would be inappropriate to judge than by your own Dr. who can see things and feel your pain more intense.

Archie

Dear Shruti,
Along with dairy products you can also eat one banana everyother day, lots of potassium in it.
Also remember while eating banana some women experience difficulty to pass stool or lot of time feeling shortness of breath, though either of two concerns are normal during pregnancy you can reduce amount of banana intake.

Banana is one of the best fruit for pregnant but due to differences in metabolic activities from individual to individual some may experience hard stool or shortness of breath but not necessarily be the case for everybody.
