Vidhi, you have not mentioned your height but it seems to me that you were already overweight when you got pregnant. Based on your height and pre-pregnancy weight, your gynecologist should have made a calculation of your BMI [body mass index] and told you how much you need to gain during the pregnancy.
Usually a woman who is over 18 years old and has a high BMI [as is true probably in your case] is suggested to gain no more than 8-10 kgs by 9 months. She is referred to a good nutritionist who will guide, monitor and support her to gain only a reasonable amount of weight. So far you have gained 19 kgs, by 40 weeks you may have gained another 2 or 3 kgs.
To get back to pre-pregnancy weight you will ned to breastfeed really well, exercise, not diet or crash diet but see a nutritionist or dietician to modify and monitor your diet and stay off the sweets, ghee, fried foods, maida products like white bread, biscuits, cookies etc and focus on low fat milk, fresh fruits and vegetables, salads, white meats and the usual high iron foods needed for replenishing your body supplies.
I am 5' 5' ' and weighed a decent 55 kgs at conception. I was advised a weight gain of no more than 14 kgs. I weighed 67 kgs at 40 weeks. My baby was 3 kgs. I lost the excess weight in 3 months and reshaped my body with yoga, pilates, cardio workouts and my diet was very sensible. I breastfed exclusively for 6 months. I started weight training at the gym after a few months so with that and yoga my tummy got flat pretty soon!! It was really hard to say NO to foods that were tempting but it was worth it:)The family was very supportive, especially Mom and Ma-in-law who had also taken excellent care of themselves. The post natal exercises taught at my prenatal classes were a great help as they started my journey to fitness.
I hope you can do it too..... I know you can. Have a safe delivery!!
Sam
