Due Date Club November 2004:Sleeping alone?

Hi,
Has any of your babies are sleeping alone at night in their own room or in a crib? My baby sleeps with us on our bed and I want to make her get used to sleeping in a different room or in her crib. But she knows so well when I'm not next to her and gets up very soon. So any suggestions as how to get her used to sleep alone?

Devi

Hi Devi

As the others suggested, you can start by making your child sleep in a crib,in your room and then gradually move it to another room.My son has been sleeping in a crib,in his room from 3 months of age(he is 14 months old now) and I use a baby monitor.I trained him early on because I wanted everyone to sleep well. But,kids change.I am hoping that he continues to sleep this way because everyone is getting their fair share of sleep.

I think now is a good time to start taining your baby to sleep alone.

Good luck.

Sandhya

Subject:  Crib

My daughter sleeps in her crib right from day 1 at home. I never made the habit of putting her in my bed, for the fear of hurting her accidentally. The crib is next to my bed till now, till now, I don't hv any plans of putting her in a seperate room(I need peaceful sleep in the night).

You can try pulling the crib next to ur bed, remove one side railing, so it looks like an extension of your bed and try putting her to sleep there. Once she is used to it, add the rails and after few days put the crib little by little away from the bed. I think they can accept slow changes.

Let me know how it goes. Love to Adhya,
CK

Subject:  Same problem

Devi,
Even I have the same problem. My daughter sleeps soundly when she is on our bed. I put her crib after she falls asleep but she wakes up a few hours later and I end up bringing her into bed in the middle of the night. If she is awake, putting her to sleep in the crib (which is next to my bed) is impossible let alone leaving the crib in a different room.
