Due Date Club October 2001:What to do for swelling?

Hi all,
I had an appointment with Dr y'day. My little darling has not changed position since July!!! That means its head down and fine. Placement of placenta is also on top so nothing to worry about that at the moment. Baby is 6 pounds and is normal weight, she expect the baby weight at the time of birth to be 7.5 pounds. But because my height is just 5 feet, she said there is 30 to 40% chances of having C-section. I am really scared for that. She said, if I deliver before due date then the chances of normal delivery is more. If baby's weight is below normal (6 pounds at birth) then more chances of normal .... oooohh !!!
Also, I am having swelling for 2 weeks, she said we really can not do anything for that. Till the BP is normal, its fine, but I want to reduce it. Anyone of you know how to reduce swelling ?
How are you all doing? Padmaja, Nivea, Jyotsna and Mekha? Haven't seen mekha for long time.
Take care.

sakhi replied. Hi all,
thanks a lot for all ur postings. This boosted my confidence. I am getting very very impatient and I still have 3 more weeks to go ... Feeling lot of weight. hope these days pass as soon as possible. I am trying all possible ways to reduce swelling.
Nivea, good to know that u are getting more leave ... just 45 days is too short. Jyotsna, u have put on less than 1/2 of weight compare to mine. Here all chinese girls are so slim, we can see their weight gain is only in the belly, which is not the case with me. Padmaja, don't worry, ur little darling will come on time. Do you go for walk? People say walking help bring labor ... Mekha, how are you doing ?
Does anyone know sex of ur baby? I am very curious to know. But keeping it as final surprise and thats why getting very impatient.
Keep posted ... Padmaja, all the best to you...
Padmaja replied. Hi girls,
Sakhi,Good to hear that everything is going on fine with you and your baby.As far as swelling goes, as our friends said if your BP is normal there is nothing to worry about but there are few remedies to reduce this water retention.Drink lots of water, don't hold urine for long, elevate your legs as much as possible, while at work keep your feet elevated, while sleeping use two pillows under your legs, eat water fruits like watermelon etc.
Don't think about csec right from now, your height or baby's weight can't predict anything.Recently my ex-colleague gave birth to a 7.5 pound baby girl in her 41st week, she is only 4'11 in height and it is a normal delivery. So take it easy !
Girls, had my weekly appointment and U/S today, cervix has not effaced and no dialation yet, worried and waiting for some positive changes.Other wise the OBGYN said everything looks fine.
We are currently playing waiting game meanwhile my discomforts are continuing.
Send me labor vibes folks !
Nivea, good that you are taking a break, take care and get as much rest as you can.
Jyotsna,as we said we seem to be having pretty much the same physical complaints.Take care of yourself and happy shopping.
Mekha, where are you?
Take care girls and best wishes to you all.
nivea replied. hi sakhi,
Sad to hear about the swelling. I know its highly inconvenient..but i guess those are the last month problems that we have to face now... As Jyotsna mentioned , so long as your BP is under control..theres nothing to fear .
In order to reduce swelling, Try and keep your feet elevated as much as possible. Even at office , try and keep ur feet on a stool or something. Then reduce salty /spicy food as much as possible and have plenty of water.
And sakhi...dont worry too much about the birth. Dont try thinking too much about it since that only tends to increase your tension. Just go with the flow and your instincts on that day !!. And whatever happens remember...its finally all for the best .
Jyotsna, nice to hear that you are done with most of your shopping. How are u and teh baby doing otherwise?I know its getting uncomfortable with each passing day now. But dont worry...your almost there !!!
By teh way , friends,,i've spoken to my Boss and the kind soul has agreed to my leave plans. ( Guess he didnt have much of a choice !!)So I'm basically on my 1 month annual leave now till Oct 20. And After that it will be another 45 days of maternity leave !!
Padamaja.... how are u doing and mekha..long time no news...do keep writing everyone.
And take care all of you

jyotsna replied. hi sakhi,
Swelling normally occurs when bp is high but if your bp is okay, then dont worry.Try and put your feet up in an elevated position more frequently.Since u r working and u r sedentary,it can aggravate the swelling.Dont take too much salt in your food as a precaution.
Re:C-section,i think your should again not think too much about it.Birth should be a normal experience and the doctor should try his/her best to give you a normal birthing experience.
My 1st born was 3.45 kilos but the bigness of the baby had nothing to do with the caesarian that i subsequently had.A baby is designed to go through our birth canal and the pelvic muscles are made that way to expand and contract.A lot depends on your baby's position at the start of the birth. If the baby from one side(irrespective of size)is in the right position to exert pressure on the cervix opening, the cervix will naturally dilate and labor will progress.I have been in touch with a certified birth instructor--\";Doula\"; as they call them in the USA..for some tips for me to aid a normal. She has given me some tips to try at the time of labor as this time,i am keen on a normal birth.
I am in my 35th week, soon to start my 36th week. This time round i havent gained much weight --just 7 kilos which is around 15 pounds.I feel active/tired in bursts and am going thru all the travails of pregancy--painful calf muscles, pressure in the lower abdomen and back and grouchiness due to insomnia.Im waiting for my mom to come but she will make it only by the 18th oct..
Ive finished most of the shopping for the baby, got a mattress made as well.Yet to do my shopping and packing up.
Keep in touch all of you

It's a GIRL !!!!!!
Hi all,
I delivered a beautiful baby girl on 23rd November
at around 2 a.m. She weighed at 8lb 13oz & is 21\"; tall. It was a normal delivery, the mom & the baby are doing fine. We named her \";Shreya\";.
My mom and myself decided to put our creative skills and mind to work (optimum use of my maternity leave!) and have come up with these beautiful Quilts-cum-Comforters for Babies and Kids as well as for Adults. I am just spreading the good word around – some kind-av-marketing, you can say! I urge you to check out this stuff on ‘www.indiapare... - Irene Kurdikar [View Message]
our prayers are with you
