Name: Vanni
I have been reading a lot of posts regarding pigmintation, complexion...all relating to skin color.
What is sad is in this society it has been embraced, the idea of whitening one's skin in hopes to look more beautiful.
Most Indians, for the most part have color to their skin, some are very fair; almost white, but most Indians, including myself look all Indian and not one bit white. I don't want to put down fairness, I have a lot of fairer skinned cousins, but I myself am not that fair, but I feel beautiful, I feel like I am just as attractive as the next girl.
With most Indians having dark hairs and brown eyes, it is most common to have a glowing complexion to go with it.
This is a deeply rooted issue, it's something that really isn't anyone's fault, it's just a thing that has been carried from one generation to the next.
The only people to truly benefit are the companies, the industries, selling these bleaching creams. They show pictures of \";before\"; and \";after\";...but we don't stop to realize that the model's pictures have been enhanced. When you read the labels, you will notice it says to stay out of sunlight...
I'm not against someone using a cream to even out one's complexion (if it's blothcy, or has dark spots), but using it just to become \";whiter\"; is not so good in my opinion because of the dangers, the issues behind that.
Let's be proud and beautiful in our own way, let's not harm ourselves, let's not feel we are less than if we aren't \";white\";...we'll never really be white anyway, will we?
