after a long time iam posting you all.how r things going??tomorrow i will be going for gtt,feeling very nervous.if comes up positive,then ......but in my family nobody has got it.can anyone suggest me what shud i do before i go for that test.shud i go fasting or what type of food shud i take??shud i have plenty of water before i go for it????PLS REPLY.

---------------------------------- Deepika replied. hi debi.i took this test once earlier on in my pregnancy.well i had a regular lunch then one hour before taking the test i had to drink about 120ml of water with the glucose that the lab had given me and exactly an hour later i took the blood test.it was fine.now again i am due for a gtt myself.will take it in the next few days,i am worried too as i am on the heavier side and gestational dia develops after week 23 or so if it does.well if you are planning to take it in the morning have a light breakfast of some toast or something .all the best to you hope you will come out with no probs at all.love

Even I have got a GTT test tomorrow.I just called up the Docs office and got to know what's to B done..... I am told that we should start fasting from Midnight...... She told me not to have anything until morn(My test is at 9:00 am) If thirsty....I could have 2-3 gulps of water.Thats it...... I have been already given the drink...So I will B taking it around 8:00am at home and then leave for the Docs clinic...... The test will B approximately after an hr.....during which they draw the blood and thats it I suppose......I have no idea whats next after that. Anyway....lets C and hope that the test results R in our favour...All the best dear. Take care.

How u doing? I had my GTT this monday, I haven't heard from Doc yet abt the reports.I hope everything is fine, nobody in family has it too, but I have heard Gestational Diabetes is very common among Asian Women.
Anyway, go for the test early in the morning, b'cos u need to fast atleast 6 hrs(If I am sure) Iwent at 6:45 am in the morning, even if there is a long line in the lab, just tell the person in the countre u have come for a glucose test, in this way they won't make u wait.
They would give u a Carbonated Glucose drink, I got orange flavour, it tasted very much like Fanta, I was asked if I wanted it cold or room temp, I preferred room temp since I had cough. You will be asked to finish 500ml of solution in 5 minutes, just gulp it. I am not sure what ur Doc has prescribed, 1 Hour glucola or 3 hrs . If its ur first test , it shud be one hour, after an hour of drinking this, your blood will be drawn. Thats it. the Procedure is over.
