Crying & Colic:constant ear infection

Name: Mother

My son is alomost a year and a half and he has already had about 10 ear infections. I am totally against putting tubes in his ears because I am scared of the surgery. He is in day care everyday while I am at work. I realized children in daycare are more prone to getting ear infections and colds (which is the case with my son) but I don't want to constantly give him antibiotics and medication for his never ending cold. Any suggestions on what I should do, change, etc.?

hi mom,

Is your son still botlle feeding? It is belived thattaking a bottle lying down also makes the child more prone to ear infedtion (and when he has a cold, the chances are more). So can reduce bottle feedings / make him sit upright and feed him

hello...
please first of all stop giving too much antibiotic.
don,t u think some precaution are to be taken .
v live in a cool climate.slight bad exposure can lead problems.
my son also is the same age of u r son .
try using AYURVEDIC CONCEPT(brand nameisBODY CARE i guess) cold releif balm.when i suspect slight congestion i start applying it on my son ,also u can put a few drops of KARVOL CAPSULES ON HIS PILLOW.try using some good nasal drops too.
from my experience these medicines are really good.
try to use aroma therappy (of course under proper guidance)
best of luck .
hope my suggestions will be use ful to u r son .

Hi!
I always thought that a baby in daycare will get more immune to diseases/infection, then a kid @ home, Anyway, to reduce the infection, try to make sure that water doesn't getinto his eay when he takes an head bath, and try 2 keep his ears cover with cotton, just a suggestion, I may not be correct, doc is the best person 2 tell.

Hi Suresh -

Thank you for your suggestion. Actually children in day care due get more immune but your immunity only builds up by being exposed to different bacteria's and these bacteria's cause infections and make the children more prone to getting sick.

We have tried putting cotton in the ear but ear infections occur in the middle ear and water does not go into the middle ear when giving a head bath, it is only in the outer ear. Thanks again, if you can think of any other suggestions, please let me know.
