Due Date Club January 2005:Update.. and too many Q's.

Hi All,

I guess i've seen one round of everyone's updates and am sitting down to do mine now...

Kich is 6 months and 10 dys old today.. I havent measured his lenght but his weight and head C are moving along the lines of his birth. He weights 21 lb now. The weight gain rate has dropped a notch since his Lactogen hadtaal.

Rolls over well now and is gumming anyting that comes in his way (he searches with both hands around his face and body, when lying on his back, and picks up stuff) and loves a cold cloth on his gums. Eats solids ( i would have died if he went on a solid hadtaal) like Cerelac, applesauce, carrots and mashed rice. Banana has become a routine now and i've re-started tomato soup. My doc has asked me to give him veg soup to compensate for the lowered water intake..

He has developed stranger anxiety and separation anxiety too. He screams if we leave him alone for a min or if he cant see where we are in the room..

To all moms with sleep issues - i found that Kich sleep longer and sounder if i put him on his side.. You know he sleeps with us. So when i put him down asleep on the bed, i quickly turn him to face me. And he sleeps better.. When he starts squirming (amma says his sides must hurt), i turn him. i dislodge sanj form the other side (Kich is always facing me..)

I've been told that sleeping on the tummy also helps reduce night-wakings, but i am a bit scared. Heard too much about SIDS and all...

He is still only wriggling his way forward and does not sit w/o support.

Q: What language do you plan to speak to your kiddos in? Since we're all out of our home-towns and they'll HAVE to speak English outside.. I'm just wondering!!

Q2: Imagine they pick up something small and swallow it. What do we do? Shoudl we wait till we can reach a doc or is there a home remedy?

Q3: Oil massage - Do you pt oil on their hair everyday? How do you wash it off, if yes?

Q4: Kich likes stnading on our laps. How long can he do that? And have all the kiddies legs straightened out? (As in when they were born, the legs were not like ours na?)

Too many sawals and so little to write on my update..

Reena, Komal, Raj, Ruby, Vidya, Chaya, Jay, Swati and all... Why am i feeling depressed suddenly for no reason? I'm feeling under the weather today and am not sick, havent fought or anything.. I'll try and speak to vani today.. You know we've started talking fairly reg and it is soooo much of a releif...

Chalo yaar... Love to all the smart, chweet and lovely tinies..

Why are you feeling low! You are the cheerleader of our gang! Maybe Kich not drinking lactogen is making you feel bad! Hugs to you! On days I feel low, I take some coffee and then try to get some sleep not necessarily in that order. I think you must be feeling tired. Is your Mom in town? I forgot to ask you about the nanny. Did you find another one? Take care of yourself. Only then, you can take good care of Kich.
I think Kich is teething. Diya's milk intake reduced significantly before she got her tooth. She refused to nurse or she would start and then stop. Keep giving him the cold wash cloths. I gave something in plastic for her to bite. I think it hurts their gums when they suck at that time. If you are concerned, try giving him some lactogen in a dropper or palaadai(tamil term). I gave tylenol a couple of times to help her pain.(only 3 times)
Regarding your questions, I wanted to ask you guys about the language you speak too. Diya loves nursery rhymes. So I end up singing it to her all the time. English almost becomes the primary language because of that. She sure will speak English easily because she is going to converse with everyone outside in that when she grows up. But I try to speak to her in Telugu too because that is my mother tongue and I want to her to learn that. I have to make sure that I speak more often in Telugu. Ramesh and I speak in Tamil all the time. So she will definetely learn that without a problem.
You make sure that there is nothing small enough for them to swallow around them. There is no home remedy if it goes inside their food/wind pipe and gets caught. I have a friend whose son swallowed a penny and they didn't even realise that for almost a month. He started having wheezing problems and hoarse voice. Then they took him to the ped and when they took an X-ray, they found the penny. Thank god, they took an X-ray. If anything is small enough to go inside a toilet paper holder, then it is dangerous for the baby.
I try to put oil everytime before a hair wash and I almost forget and realize it only when I put the shampoo. I also wash her hair twice. You could use moong dhal powder too. I am going to try kadala maavu someday:)
He can stand however long he wants. My hubby holds Diya so many times like that. I think hers straightened out. She is sleeping now. I have to check her when she wakes up.
Keep pillows around him so that he will not injure himself and let him sit up. He will master sitting up very soon.
Love to kich and u
Vidya

Hi Vidya,

Guess you're right! I am blaming myself for his lactogen strike.. I only wonder what the scene would have been had i decided not to work...

When Diya's tooth broke out, did she show signs of fever or loose motions?

I guess English is going to dominate but i sing to him in Mallu.

My mom's here and i am searching for a nanny.. Poor amma's so tired sometimes i feel maha guilty!!

I am giving him Lactogen with spoon, sippy cup whatever means he'll take. But the quantity is still some 6 oz a day!! I'm continuing BF so i guess it's not all that bad..

Neways, thanks for your reply and encouragement..

Love to Diya!!
