hi girls,

i started giving rice cereal to tintin a few days back...and she loved it...but when i tried carrots yesterday...she totally went nuts...and spit it all out...and since then..shes even refusing her cereal...she wud just turn her head away or make unhappy sounds...now what do i do?

also...when i mix cereal and water i find little lumps in it..no matter how much time i spend mixing it properly...so i have to stop every now and then during feeding to stop and break those lumps...plz suggest the correct way of mixing it..

poonam ck replied. I mix cereal with bm or formula. I think u can use formula instead of water.

If baby doesn't like one taste try it again after few days. She might like it then. It happens with my daughter too. One time she dislikes it one time she likes it.

For fruits/veggies, give 1/4th jar initially, after couple of days increase it to 1/2th and then to full jar. shweta replied. Hi poonam,
I dont know what u r doing right now but when i started solids .i followed the process of giving rice cereal a week then oatmeal and barley for the next two weeks... only then i started with the first foods that is veggies and fruits.
wanted to tell u that tintin will take time before she starts taking solids properly.u have just started.... so one day she might eat properly other day not it can take abot 2 or 3 weeks before she eats well.So keep patience also like we have our likes and dislikes for food its the same with them...she may like something very much and the other not so u have to keep trying till u come to know that what food she is not interested in.may be if u will give her carrot after a gap of 2,3 days she will eat it.remember till now she was on formula so apparently she will take time to get accustomed to solids.I have started advik with second foods still there r days when he is not eating properly.He likes fruits more then veggies.once u know what all tintin likes more u can mix that with the food she does not likes and see if she is eating that.Remember u have to keep a lot of patience...dont force her to eat.
and ya. about that lump thing...if u r using hot water it may result in forming lumps try to mix with lukewarm or water at room temperature.The proportion is one tbsp. of cereal with 4tbsp of formula and gradually u can decrease the amount of liquid for a thick texture...see whatever tintin is comfortable with.Advik was good with barley among the three cereals.
Still if u have any concerns u can always consult ur pediac.hope this helps.

I mix cereal with formula. I noticed that if we mix cereal with hot liquid, it gets lumpy. So I mix it with cold formula. About the carrots, keep trying. WHen strating a new item, start with one spoon and slowly increase it based on their tolerance. Good Luck!
