2001-08-30

Hi all,

I am just trying to gather all the information as how to prepare for arrival for the baby. Like buy crib, stroller, cloths etc. Also how to decorate your room? And most important what all things to pack for myself when I go to hospital.

Do post all things that you know.

Sakhi

Hi Jyotsna and Nivea,

Thanks girls for the message. Nivea, your list is really very good. I am now preparing for my hospital bags, since I only get sat/sun to do shopping, I am starting early and then who knows when my little one wants to come? :)

I am not going to buy stroller and crib so early, althought I will go and choose and my DH can order it once we get baby. Hey, I also started to buy stuff to decorate my room. Since at present all walls are empty, I want to make it more colorful.

I am having appointment with DR on friday, now a days I have to go bi-weekly.

Where is Padmaja these days?
Keep posted girls.

Hi,

Its nice that you are planning in advance for the baby's arrival.

There are some baby essentials which you cannot do without like:-
A baby crib with soft mattress, pillow and quilt.
A stroller-Many people i know are so fascinated by strollers/prams that this is teh very 1st thing they set out to buy...But we ought to remmember that a baby doesnt need a stroller until he/she is 4-5 months old !!
Clothes for the baby--The 1 st month we normally use white cotton dresses for the babySince they outgrow their sizes very quickly...dont invest too muchin clothes. A resonable quantity for home and outside use is fair enuff.
Cloth Nappies-You'llneed 1/2 dozens of these--here again depends on ur preference for disposable/washable nappies. You'll need to work out the pros & cons , and decide as per your preference.
Warm wollen cothes--It will be the beginning of winter when our babies are born in october--so 1/2 sets of warm clothes wil be fine.
Gripe water--keep it handy--yu never knwo when u might need this.
Feeding Bottles/Sterilizer--Just in case u need them.
Towels/baby cloth--to clean baby
Baby safe tub--for bathing.
Shawls-for swaddling the baby.
baby carrying sac--for carrying baby for the initial 2-3 months.
Baby soap/shampoo/oil for massage/Powder/jelly/Diaper rash cream-Keep all this handy.

Thats about all i can think of for now Sakhi.

With regards to what u need in the hospital..this again depends from place to place and hospital and hospital. But I guess basic requirements remain the same:-
Front opening night dresses--to make feeding easier
Nursing Bras/Undergarments
Nursing Breast pads
Sanitary pads-Carry in abundance.
Your personal hygiene stuff-comb/cream/toothpaste/brush/lip cream /towels etc etc
Disposable diapers fro baby--while in hospital
Clothes for baby
Blanket/shawl for swaddling the baby
Suitable outfit to carry baby and for ur self when u leave hospital.
Some books/magazines to keep u occupied -postdelivery of cos!!;)
And last but not the least--Your still & VideoCamera ...to capture those moments when u first see ur new born ;)

Gosh--I hope my list has proved useful.....
so Happy buying Sakhi.

Take care
Nivea.
