C-Section:Periods

Hi all,
I have been having almost continuous bleeding after delivery. It was there for the first 21 days after delivery. And then, I got periods after 35 days. And now again after 45 days, its as if my periods have started all over again.
Is this normal? I have had a C- Section.
Should I go and consult a gynaec?

Some people get their periods sooner than others. But normally if you are breastfeeding exclusively, periods don' t start.
I had a similar problem with my first born. I was bleeding for around 21 days and it would stop for a week to 10 days and then start all over again. I tried different doctors and different medicines for 5 years before I got a solution. It was due to the hormonal changes and once the doc regulated my cycle things were fine.
After my second, I got my periods only after I stopped breastfeeding. But it started off in the same way (very heavy and more than a week). So the doc gave me something to stop it and I haven' t got my periods after that (it' s been 2 months now). I think my body needs to regulate the cycle. If your periods are normal then I feel there' s nothing to worry. If you find it' s too heavy or too late (which sometimes happens after delivery...cycle changes), see your doc.

Renu,

r u feeding exclusively???

bleeding for 45 days is normal after c-sec. besides if u r feeding tghen ur periods would not return so soon. in some cases of breast feeding moms periods dont resume until the baby is weaned off.

Hi Archi,

I am exclusively breastfeeding my baby. But then, I have had a C- Section. Maybe that explains the excessive bleeding.
Anyways, thanks a lot for the information.

RE:C-Section
C-sections are planned when the mother wishes to escape the labor pain or in emergencies like if the cord is entangled around the baby's neck and the baby's life is at risk. But i think natural delivery is always a better option.... - Neeta [View Message]
