Due Date Club July 2008:low lying placenta

hi guys..

i just got my 12th wk scan done today and everything seems to be ok, touchwood! all except that i seem to have low lying placenta.. within 2 cms of the cervix.. i googled this condition and it says that if diagnosed in early pregnancy i.e. before 28 weeks, then there are excellent chances that the placenta will migrate higher as the uterus grows.. i was somewhat consoled by reading this but if anyone is going through the same thing please share your thoughts and what your doctor has to say about this.. i am going to see my doctor on Saturday.. so it' ll help me a lot if you can chip in with your thoughts till then..

also i saw my cutie li' l baby lounging in my uterus with 1 arm behind it' s head and it' s legs crossed in front of it.. just like how my hubby sits and watches TV :) :) so seems like it' s taking after it' s daddy! but i couldn' t help smiling at that pose.. it was indescribably amazing!!!

no anomalies detected.. so all seems fine.. i have my next scan in the 20th week.. apparently i am in my 13th week 2nd day as compared to 11th wk 6th day.. so i think i' m just about done with 3 months..

anyone else due for their 12th week scans or already done with them?

Last time she told to hav lot of food dats al. I' m in tension, I dnt know whom I can ask.. According to my 21st week scan my gestational age is only 19 weeks, Why its jst like dis? I got fever in my end of the 3rd month(about102.5). whether These are the factors are going to harm my baby?

I am really in tension..

Hi!
I came across your message while searching for low lying placenta. I went for a scan yesterday and it was discovered that I too have a low lying placenta.I am a bit scared. How is your condition now. Did you go for absolute bed rest? Looking forward to your reply.

hi ashita

i had low lying placenta very early in my pregnancy i.e. at 8 wks.. it eventually migrated upwards at 16 wks so there is no complication, touch wood! what week are you in? if it is early in your pregnancy then you have nothing to worry about.. u just need to be careful of not doing strenuous work.. if it is late in your pregnancy then you need to follow your doctor´ s advice and take complete bed rest..

I am happy that everything is going fine. Thts good.

Even i had my scan last week end it was @ the end of 11th week.

Doctor said the growth is fine and found an unsual abnormality that my left kidney is lying lower than the right kidney.

Doctor said its ususual but as i never had any problem with kidney it shd be OK.

heart rate was 183bpm and the radiologist said that it can very well be a girl.

Good to hear that everything is going well. I can imagine how it feels to see the little one in different poses acting out on the screen. Its a lovely experience.

I have my 12th week scan tomorrow. I' m so damn excited. It is an anomaly scan too. I just pray that everything is normal and perfect. My doctors had done my routine blood tests when I was in my 10th week. These blood tests were to check for any birth defects if any. My next appt with my gynac is on 23rd jan. Tomm I just have my scan scheduled.

I will give u all my updates tomm after coming back from the scan. Best of luck all u gals.

take care

hii Riya...
I am from may board & it seems this low lying placenta thing is increasing alot......neways I have low lying placenta & im in my 21st week.......I Had bleeding in my 16th week, reason was the same low lying placenta, doctor asked me to take complete bed rest...i called my mom & untill now im taking bed rest...my doctor said placenta will move up during 7th month..
Normally in case of low lying placenta you should avoid making love, take complete rest especially lie down on bed keeping two pillow below your legs means your leg should be in upward position..don' t bow down, dont lift any heavy thing..don' t stand for too long..control travelling...if you seat on sofa...keep your leg up...if you are sitting on chair make sure you keep some small table below your leg i mean to say you should not hang your legs...take care
you & baby will be in my prayers...

Hi Poonam,

Thanks a ton! I am glad you shared your experience on this. I had no clue as to what to do. Obviously my doc will explain what has to be done tomorrow to help the placenta migrate up further. But i will keep in mind all the things you have mentioned and make sure that I don´ t do anything in extreme which will cause harm.

Thanks again :)

hi lalitha..

i can answer most of your questions except the last one.. my doctor had calculated my gestational age as 11wks 5days on 10th Jan, which is today.. but when i went in for the scan today, the ultrasound doctor said the gestational age is 13wks 2days.. so it doesn' t matter if you go 2-3 days in advance or 2-3 days later.. by your 11th week there should be sufficient progress in the foetal growth..

my scan was an anomaly scan, which i am sure even you will be getting done at 12wks.. my doctor prepared me in advance that it maybe a vaginal scan if the ultrasound doctor could not see the foetus clearly to determine the defects, if any.. otherwise it is supposed to be an abdominal scan.. it' s always better to be prepared mentally for a vaginal scan just in case.. and remember, don' t fill your bladder like i did.. i was so desperate not to have a vaginal scan that i drank a lot of water so that the doctor could see clearly in the abdominal scan.. as a result i thought i' d pee right on the examining table.. hee hee.. the scan doesn' t need your bladder to be full..

yes, you should ask to hear the heartbeat.. my ultrasound doctor did it without my asking.. but you should demand for it coz it is one of the vital indicators of progress.. and it is your right to know.. you are paying for it..

i haven' t been asked to do any other tests.. except go back for another anomaly scan at 20wks.. i have to go visit my doctor on Saturday.. i' ll know only after that if i am needed to do any genetic testing.. i am 29 yrs old.. but i suggest you ask your doctor so you know exactly what has to be done in order to ensure a healthy and happy baby..

i hope your scan goes well.. please update me coz i' d love to know how things are going with you.. :)

take care

love,
riya

Hi Riya

It must be a great feeling to see the baby!! congratulations! I have been asked to come for my 12th week scan on or after the 20th. I have only questions for you, no answers to your questions.... sorry about that.
when exactly can u do the scan - exactly after 12 weeks, or is it okay to do the same 3-4 days before you complete 12 weeks?
was the scan an over the tummy one, or a vaginal one?
while doing the scan can u also ask to hear the heartbeat (because when i did my 6 and half week scan to check for heartbeat, i didnt hear it, and I didnt ask to hear it either)
what other tests have you been asked to do?
my sister (who was 37 when pregnant) was asked to do a test to check for genetic disorders in the baby. I am 31 now. I am wondering if i shd ask for the same? anyone with thoughts on this?

Lalitha

Hii lalitha...
Well I have an answer for your last question..Yes you should go for that test bcoz...once you cross thirty you should do that test Triple marker screen test its very good.I don´ t want to scare you but one who cross 30 should do this test its bit expensive but very useful for baby.I am 27 but still I did that test..as doctor asked to do that test..also when you go for your 12th week test ask doctor about NT
(Nuchal Translency)thats actually they will count Neck thickness of the baby also may be they will chk Nasal Bone & chin..If everything is fine..still I will recommend to do that test..well all this system used for me when i went for 12th week scan I don´ t know about system in India...but these are the few things which every mom should know.
