Crying & Colic:crying baby
2004-08-05
Name: Manisha

I have a 11/2 months old daughter and for the last 2 days she cries at regular intervals and since morning today she is not even sleeping on the bed. but she sleeps if i take her in my arms. Moreover is it because my mother has gone 2 days ago and she used to keep the baby with her and she used to cry only when the feed was required but now its more than too often. Is it due to stomach ache 'coz i have tried the hing cure but it has not helped and doctors have told me not to give gripe water.. Please help

Manisha,

I faced a similar problem with my 6 mth daughter when my parents left. When babies cry, it could be one of several reasons.. but if she has started this pattern specifically after your mother left it means, she's missing her. If its any comfort babies have very short term memory & your baby will get over it, it may take 1-2 weeks but she will get used to being around just you. I would take my daughter for walks in the stroller every morning, that way she would be distracted watching cars & people , then i would feed her in the park & walk some more. She would fall asleep in the stroller & I would bring her home & let her sleep in the stroller & get my work done. In the evening my husband & I would take her to toy stores so she could see other children & babies again.. over a period of time, she got over the crying & was back to her nap routine. As far as gripe water, my dr advised not to use it too, however all my friends peds said it was OK, so i went ahead & gave that. As long as your comfortable just go ahead & give it. Only thing make sure it is non alcoholic type if you are planning on using an Indian brand gripe water. If you have tried all this & she still cries, check if she is hungry (may be she's grown out of her usual amt of feeding & needs to be started on something a lil heavier), or massage her tummy & see if she feels better, sply around the naval area. Also lay her on her left side, use some pillows to support her back & tummy & stay around her but dont carry her. Hope this helps, i know it can be really tiring when your baby cries all the time, I know it since i've been there!

I will wait to hear if any of these things helped!
