Due Date Club October 2005:Tanvi's Annaprasana pictures

Name: Vasavi

Friends, We went to Aurora temple last saturday to do Annaprasana for Tanvi. She was playing with the priest during the puja. After the puja and we put different items in front of her, she cwarled and touched the book first, then a toy and finally rice bowl.

Check out the annaprasana album

yesterday I started rice for her. I cooked Rice, Dal, green Beans in a cooker, pureed it, added a little ghee and fed her. I think she likes it. I hope she continues to like it.

Love to your little ones, Hope they are all eat well and be healthy.
Vasavi.

SK, Sireesha, Suki, Lavanya, Sowmya, Thank-you all for the compliments.

Sireesha, We missed doing annaprasana earlier, so we did it now(the priest said it is ok to do it in 8th month). And the ratio I used to make her food is 2 spns rice:1 spn toor dal:2 green beans. And after grinding it, I added 2 drops ghee. NO SALT(atleast for 1 yr). I hope this helps.

SK, Mommy(me) made the dress. When you have a daughter, Its really nice to know stiching. My mom knew stiching and she used to make all kinds of dresses for us. Most of Tanvi's traditional dresses are also made by my mom.
And yes you are right, Annaprasana is related to introducing food for the first time. This event is exciting because after puja and feeding, we put some items(Money, gold, books, pen, knife, toys etc) in front of the baby. We encourage the baby to move forward and touch an item. Each item signifies something important. If the baby touched money she is going to be rich or if she touches book she would be a scholar and if she touches knife, she is going to be a warrior.
Tanvi touched book first, then a toy and finally food bowl.

Lavanya, It is ok to grind food. We can definetly mash rice and dhal, but veggies it would be difficult. So it is better to grind the food now. You can stop it when prisha learns to chew the food.

Thank-you again and Love to the little ones,
Vasavi.

Sowmya, I live 120 miles south of Chicago. We do not have temples close by so we have to go either to Aurora or Lemont for such occasions.

If I remember correctly you moved to Michigan few months back. How do you like the place now?

Tanvi also likes to play with the rice bowl and spoon. So I give her a spoon to play and she is very happy. But the only problem is when I try to feed her she too wants to feed me :-)

Love to deeksha,
Vasavi.
