Due Date Club December 2006:Archie..please advice.

Hello Archie,

I had two drops of vaginal blood on 16th of this month for the first time. I immediately went for a check-up. My doctor did an internal check-up and said everything is OK. She heard the heart-beat also. The next day i.e on 17th, I just had very little dark brown spotting. On 18th, 19th and 20th I didn't see any kind of spotting. It automatically stopped on its own. But, I saw two drops of brown liquid again yesterday (21st) and today (22nd) morning.

I am really worried. What could be the reason? what should i do now?

Actually, I am having haemorroihs before pregnancy, since many yrs. But I never used any medication. If it is painful, then i used to take laxative like Metmucil once in a while. But after becoming pregnant, It was so severe that i had rectal bleeding too. So my OB-GYN suggested to take Colace whenever needed. But I am taking them daily since 3 weeks.

Is it because of continuous intake of Colace that I am spotting? If i don't take colace on any day, then immediately i am having haemorroids pain on that day. So i am taking them daily. Is this harmful?

I am now 11.1 weeks pregnant.

Thank you, waiting for your answers.

Take care,
blessed_mom

hemorrhides can get worse during pregnancy and you can incrase fiber in diet, try to eat dry prunes or drink prune juice, eat only whole wheat, avoid carbs or bleached flour and lets see if that helps some way. Dont' forget to drin about 10 glasses of water, try to drink sort of luke warm water not cold, it will worsen the condition.
colace is not bad option but thrice daily is too much see if you can reduce the intake.

bleeding mostly is due to low progesterone or low lying placenta, take bed rest and have blood checked to note progesterone levels.

Hello Archie,

thank you for your message. Yes, I am including dry prunes and drinking enough water . I am taking Colace only once in a day, but I am taking it daily since more than 3 weeks.

I asked my doctor for checking progesterone levels. But, she is against to it and added that women with no prior miscarriage or women who didn't had difficulty in conceving need not be checked for progesterone levels for the spotting. For now, I had just listened to her reply and didn't ask her again to do the blood test.

She said that she will do my first ultrasound on june 8th. I will be 13.4 weeks then. May be we'll be able to figure out the reason for spotting in the ultrasound.

Thank you
Regards,
blessed_mom
