Hi,

I keep hearing contradictory stuff about \";teaching baby to be independent by letting him cry/sleep on his own\"; and then about \";developing good emotional balance by cuddling, carrying and rocking to sleep\";.

My Mom and i usually pick up Kich if he's crying and rock him to sleep in our arms... People tell me that he's never gonna learn to sleep on his own and that he'll be a fussy child...

What do you say?

Today I was reading the baby talk magazine and there is an article about high need kids...basically some kids have high needs and need constant attention in some way or the other...like being carried all the time, sleeping right next to you, screaming until they get the attention or their needs met, so on and so forth...I felt how true it was...they also said that it won't spoil a kid, since such kids are supersensitive, and such kids could grow to highly creative, communicative kids...so this article was just a reaffirmation that I should not let Santhosh cry it out, but make him realize that he can trust his parents to meet his needs. Better to give more affection that for the kids to feel that his/her parents don't care enough about them...especially if the kid is very sensitive.

Am also experiencing the same. My boy never sleeps or plays on his own. when he cries we pick him up. All the elders around keep saying that if I continue the same, he will never learn sleeping on his own and will get used to carrying, which is very bad. Am also so confused about what to do. He doesn't sleep even if we rock him in the cradle, he has to sleep in our arms only ;-)
Am also looking for tips on this.
