Due Date Club December 2006:expected due date way off from scan result date
2006-05-22
Name: worried

Hi all,

I had an ultrasound scan on Saturday and it revealed that I am 5 weeks 2 days pregnant, however, I was expecting to be 9 weeks pregnant from my LMP dates as my periods were regular. The scan results showed the normal gestation sac and the yolk sac minus the fetal pole as seen at 5 weeks. Is it normal for the date from the ultrasound scan to be off by almost four weeks? The doctor suggested the reason to be delayed ovulation and has suggested I get a scan done after two weeks to confirm if the pregnancy is proceeding normally and my calculations were just wrong. I have no problems of bleeding and just the normal pregnancy symptoms. My period cycles were almost regular at 30-32 days.

I think you are not only delayed ovulation but mostlikely you were suffered from anovulatory cycle and ovulated therefore much late than your expected calculation.
if your next ultrasound shows progressive pregnancy, which is established pregnancy and that matching the gestation exactly 7 weeks 2 days in case you have 14 days gap between these two ultrason then all is well and forge the rest.
I have had seen people here as you are, some even wondered why was difference of 3-4 months but all ended up delivering healthy babies as the all ultrasound from that point were in agreement so hold your breath till next ultrasoun and don't taks brain too much.

Hi ....

i can understand how worried you must feel ..so when did you find out you were pregnant ?? if you found it just 1 or 2 weeks back, then what you doctor says is very much possible ..... i know it is weird and worrisome ...

but try not to worry and wait for your next scan ...

Also , try asking your doc if you can get a HCG beta level tested(twice in interval of 1-2 days ..if they are doubling and is the value which should be for 5 weeks ..then that will relieve some tension) ...

Thanks for the suggestion. I shall certainly check with my doctor on the HCG beta level test. The cause of all this worry is that I had a positive pregnancy test on April 23rd, which was five days after I missed my period.I did both a home pregnancy test as well as a lab test on the same day and both came out positive. This has caused great confusion. Per the scan dates, I would have conceived around April 20th and would a pregnancy test turn out positive just days after that?
