Due Date Club October 2005:Not rolling over
2006-04-21

Hi,

I am happy to see the messages from you all on board about the milestones your lil ones are passing. Congratulations to all of you.
Same time I am little concerned about my daughter who is 6 1/2 months old now and not rolling over yet. She is having happy time on her tummy ( if we put her on tummy ) though. She is also able to sit and stand with support. But, she is not showing any interest in rolling over. I know some babies roll over even in eighth month, but still I am worried about her. I want to know if this is a major issue to be concerned about. Is any one of you in the same boat?

Thanks,
MD.

Thanks SK,RK and Aparnaa. I will follow your suggestions. Her doctor is also not worried about her not rolling over.
I also hope that she rolls over soon. I hope she does not skip her crawling stage. I love to see lil ones crawling. they look so cute doing that.

hi MD,
Do not worry..one of my friend's baby rolled over only in his 7th month, but after that he reached other milestotes like crawling, sitting and standing very fast..so its common..may be ur kid is feeling happy with the position she is now.seems the baby changes the positions once it gets boared with the present one.
if u do not want to wait ..as RK suggested help her in rolling over..with ur support just show her how she can rollover...just practice her few times daily..for sure she will enjoy it and do it herself very soon..
also try to place her fav toy in the floor above her head..so that she may try to rollover to get it ..
All The Best...do not worry..
love to the kid..
take care

Hi MD,

I was exactly in your shoes until 3 days back. One thing we did was, we bought a toy (fisherprice toy) .Its very colourful and it has 1 to 5 numbers. It has four options. One songs, classical music, music medly , and numbers.IF you press one of these options and press the any of the 1 to 5 numbers, you will hear music or anything related to that. This toy is available in walmart for $15.We used to lie her down on the mat and place this toy just above her head and she started turning towards the direction of the music.Since there are so many options in that toy..she started listening to it and turning her entire body. One day I gave her practice couple of times how to roll over.On that day she struggled to lift her head but turned most of her body. The next day no one was near her and she felt bored and turned towards the toy and rolled over.I felt so relieved.
One more thing our doctor said that she will definetly turn within next couple of weeks and he said that he would be concerned only if she didnot turn over by 9 months. So do not worry and try this musical toy or any other exciting toy.

Good luck :)

RK

MD,

do not worry at all...it is not uncommon to skip one or two steps in between for babies while growing up...this does not mean they lack anything or there is a problem. Also she is sitting and standing also with support thats great..that is the next step..maybe she was not interested in rolling over...and believe once she will sooner or later...so do NOT worry...
