Dont be afraid to get a head shave. Its completely harmless procedure.
Once you reach Tirumala find the address for Kalyanakatta/Tonsuring centre. You can also get it done at your own convenience in your cottage at special charges. However most of the devotees prefer it at Tonsuring centre.

At the counter purchase a ticket which will also include a blade. The next thing is to find the number on yout ticket and report it to the barber with the same. Then Remove your shirt off and wet the head and facial hair if any. Then the barber will mix the antiseptics and dip the razor and blade to avoid contamination. He will give you a slight massage on head to make sure that water spreads evenly. Then he will start with a small patch on your head shaving off the whole and ending it up with beard and moustaches. The whole process will take about 5 mins. And there you will be with your new look. All shiny and smooth. Dont be worried about being bullied by your friends. I think every man and women (these days) will get a day when they will have to shave their head. So u arent the only one. naveen raje replied. but the following incident changed me,
I was on a trip to srisailam with friends in rainy season 2008
some of my friends planned that they were going to offer the hair and take bath at the river krishna flowing near tonsure centre
We all agreed to that and i was only the once who havent got the idea / intrest to offer the full hair and just offer 3/5 coarse cuts of hair
Then we all just went to tonsure centre with shorts without shirts bcz we r going to bath
My friends were having head shaves while i was just prepared to offer 3/5 cuttings, but
Even i had ticket and was just waiting outside for my turn watching c raining climate suddeny rain started and i got dozed with water before running into kalyanakatta
With company of my friends i went inside and said the barber that i am offering 3/5 cuts he asked me to sit on platform before him in crosslegged position he sprinkled some water again on my head and started rubbing on my head gently I felt very relaxing
No soon he bend my head and me and my friends expected that he is gonna take 3/5 cuts from head i sat silently and my friends were back of me waiting for me to finish
He slowly selected a portion of scalp hair and suddenly I feel the razor action on my head no soon my friends alerted that he was shaving off my head a very small portion of my head was shaved and hair fell into my lap
OOPS!!! then i kept silent and my friends were badly laughing at that
at last he also shaved my moustaches and beard cleanly and finished it with arm pits

Personally i have shaved it many times,
Most recently it was very good experience,
I went alone for a head shave to tirupati after growing beard and moustache for 2 months at the age of 22 only,
It was pretty busy and i straight entered into tonsure hall with ticket and half blade
I was asked to get off the shirt and wet the hair,
after i did so even barber applied some water on my head and took the new blade from my hand to set it into the straight razor
I was very cool and waiting to experience the glide of razor on my hair,
He bent my head and put the shining razor on my head ! soon a sought of vibration was felt and a portion of hair fell into my lap,
very soon he razed all over my head and finished it with beard and moustache
After that i feel very relaxed and proud bcz every man should do it ateeast once in their life and Beleieve me if u feel shy u will be missing a great experience
ram replied. I read your message. You are 18yrs and you should not be feeling shy to tonsure. Its a great experience to have a tonsure at the sacred temple. There are thousands of men and women who get tonsured everyday.
Its a very simple process and does not take more than 5 mins for gents. The tonsure is done at the Kalyanakatta or at the satellite tonsure centres designated at the cottages. Its free at Kalyanakatta and you have to pay if it is at the cottages. At the kalyanakatta its a bit crowded.
The barbers are experts at their job and they perform their work very professionally. The hair is first made wet by sprinkling water a fresh blade is used in a straight razor to start the shaving process. First the back portion of the head is shaved and then the crown and both sides smoothly. You can tip the barber if you like. After the shave you feel a wonderful experience when you take a head bath.
Believe me its a experience you will enjoy.

monthly once u r making haircut then dont bother about headshave. U may see lot of gents and ladies offering their hair to lord venkateswara with happy. DOnt worry. Barber will shave very nicely in kalyanakatta and cottages also. THey will do it very fast dont worry. After shave ur head will smooth.
