Hi All

When to start giving water to baby.. i havent started giving water and i heard that till i start giving veggie and solids i dont need to give water.. is that so....

any suggestions wld be appreciated..

I too started giving Neha water when I started with Solids. Again, Chennai climate is too hot, and si it is better to give water/juice. My ped suggested to give her water to avoid dehydration in the hot climate. Neha also loves to have water!

i have been giving yash water since i started giving him solids ... i give few spoons after the cereal ... he just lovesssss water ... i usually use the same cup to take water to give him ...as soon as he sees the cup he starts opening his mouth without saying anything :)....just before that he shuts his mouth not wanting to eat anymore ;) pretty great how soon they learn...
my ped advised me at my 4 month visit itself...to start giving few spoons after solids....and nothing special just tap water is just fine he said...so i give him tap water(i have a brita filter on my tap..it is good use a filtered water).
water can do no harm...good to start....

thanks fr your suggestion... i too have brita filter and as of now using that water to mix with cereals..

doc said i can give 2 oz water everyday...

i got a trainer sippy cup.. hopefully he takes in that..

Suki,
You are right. babies dont need water as long as they are only breastfed. Once they start solids, we need to give them water. But make sure to give your baby only nusery water till one year.

I am Newyork121 from Nov 2005 board. My son was born on 1st Nov. I was hoping for him to come out on 31st Oct( Admitted on 31st morning with 5 cm dilation) but back labor and long labor he came out early morning around 4:00.
Anyway that was the brief Introduction. My doc advised me to give 4 OZ (Four) of water everyday on his 5th check up. I have started giving the water sometime in sipper cup sometime with spoon or with bottle. He was not drinking at all in the beginning but there is an improvement at this point...

I have been visiting site and finally cld see posts. Rhea is doing good.Pretty active like other kids.she sings whole abc song and counts 1to 6 (her bro' s impact)
