Due Date Club October 2001:Due on Oct 2nd; Have a few questions.

Hi,

I am glad I found this site by chance. Our first baby is due in first week of October (2nd according to my doctor). I have a few questions and would appreciate any advice.
(i) Recently I am feeling slight pain in the lower abdomen, is it normal? it comes occassionally and stays for a short time, its like streching pain - not severe.
(ii) Do you think taking classes (in preparation of delivery) are helpful?
(iii) I walk daily for 30 mts - 1 hour (other than my household work), my husband feels that its not enough. Is it OK or do I need more workout. I am not sure more workout will help me or not.
(iv) any suggestions for baby names (especially for the babies born in October).
Thanks in advance and Best wishes to all of you...

Congratss!! Siri.

Abdominal pain is normal during pregnacy as this feeling is the stretching of muscles and ligments supporting the uterus. This discomfort for me is sharp and often felt when i get up from a bed or chair after a long walk. If this pain is occasional then there is no chance for concern. I have gone to physical therapy and my therapist suggested some exercise to do everyday to overcome or to lessen this pain.

If you are still concern about it mention the pain to your practitioner.

Lamaze classes is good to learn the relaxation and breathing techniques. Most of them find these exercises effective in the control of pain during labor. This is my first pregnacy. So i have no experience at all about how i will feel it or follow their techniques during my labor..lol. But i think certainly has nothing to lose. I have scheduled for lamaze next month.

If you have done exercises before pregnacy you can probably continue it. My doctor says too little exercise isn't effective or too much can be exhausting/dangerous. Your pulse rate should not exceed 140 during the period of exercise. If you are comfortable to do more strenuous exercise then go ahead. I was doing jogging, cycling, tennis etc before but now i have restraint everything but walking.

There are many sites for indian baby names and can access it by searching \";Indian baby names\";.

Hope this helps!
Take care

hi siri and welcome aboard. As Sakhi has rightly said, the tightness in the lower abdomen is normal. It happens to me too especially if im active or have been in one posture for too long. For me lying down and belly rubs help ease it but one gets used to it .Drink plenty of water too(despite the numerous visits to the loo--I know..!!).
Lamaze classes do help not just in a practical sense but also the fact is that you get to meet parents to be like yourself.I didnt do it for my 1st kid as was working but this time round since im at home,im starting next week.
Re exercise,i feel one must follow ones body--listen to your body. There are days when i dont feel like walking-i dont coz i know if i strain then im going to suffer. You would be the best judge.Just remain active as much as you can especially in the 9th month.
Re names:if u r living in India,or can access the book by Menaka Gandhi on Indian names,it has an exhaustive list.
Take care n stay connected

Hi Siri,

Welcome to the club!!!

For the pain in abdomen, sotimes its common, but it is always better to check with your Gynic. Mekha will be able to guide you more since she also felt pain and you can check previous messages on this board to find out more about it.

Taking classes will really help, specially if you are first time mother. It teaches breathing and relaxation. Also check out previous messgaes on this subject as well.

I think 1 hr walk is more than enough if you are active entire day. If you do more, you might feel tired. But I suggest, once you take classes, they will teach you some streching technique.

For baby names, best is to search on web. There are many sites (girls have posted URL in previous messages here on this board) Happy searching.

Take care.

Sakhi
