vacuum extractor (VE)is delivery instruments in modern obstetric management. The limitations and risks of the VE are considered, as is the choice of delivery technique (VE vs forceps vs cesarean delivery) when labor ceases or other complications ensue.

Both forceps and the VE are in use as delivery instruments. In recent decades, the VE has progressively replaced forceps as the instrument of choice for many practitioners.[1, 2] Active controversy concerns if and when operative vaginal deliveries should be conducted and which instrument is the best to use in specific clinical settings.

VE has a long history. The initial applications of vacuum techniques in deliveries began in the 18th century, derived from the ancient technique of cupping. However, designing a vacuum-based instrument for obstetric use proved difficult. A successful extraction required the development of techniques for the transvaginal application of a cup to the fetal head (and occasionally, in premodern times, the buttocks) as a means to apply traction, and the ability to periodically reinforce the vacuum due to inevitable imperfections of the seal.

There is perfectly no harm to the mother as well as the baby in vaccum extraction. Infact My delivery was thr vaccum an my son is now 3.5 yrs. it is done when the mother is finding it diff to push the baby. Thru this method, the baby comes out within a sec and it was such a sigh of relief at that time. So ladies dont fear, just go for it after consulting ur doc. Acc to my experience it is a safe method

I am sure everybody is aware of this as in one of the popular movie ' 3 Idiots' the demonstration on vacuum extraction is shown. Therefore, if you want to see the demonstration, you can watch the movie but in actual situation this procedure is done by professionals.

RE:Good Gyne in North Delhi
Hey rachna i am confused as in why you want to meet a gynae for your son you should instead go for an paediatrician. And gynae is for girls and women so i dont think he/she might be able to help out your son on medical issues.... - Richa [View Message]
