Hi. My baby was born 17 days before due date. She weighed 2.75 Kg at birth. Now she is one month old and the problem is that she has not gained weight. She had physological jaundice ( her level on 28th day is 11.7) and was kept on phototherapy for two days. I am just too worried abt her not gaining weight and her jaundice not going away. She has been on breastfeed since day 1.Other than that she looks happy and is quite active. Her appetite also seems ok. I am giving her feed ever 2 hours. Pls comment on this as i am too worried.

Please don' t worry. ALL BABIES LOSE WEIGHT DURING THE FIRST 2 WEEKS AFTER BIRTH. Then they regain their birth weight by the age of 1 month. So, if your baby girl weighs anywhere close to 2.75 kgs now, at age 1 month, then she is perfectly fine.

After month one, babies should gain 30gms per day or 900 gms per month.

hi sowmya....dont panic and please dont worry ....(baby' s entirely on bf gain about 600gms weight per month ) my baby at birth was 2.4kg and she too was not gaining weight .... what u can do is to try giving u r baby lactogen 1 as one feed and the other breast feed ....make sure u burp u r after every feed ..... try this for a week and monitor u r baby' s weight....do check with u r doctor if u have any doubts... the jaundice!!!! ... if the baby is still looking yellow check with u r doc ......if the doc says baby is fine ... keep the baby in morning sun ...before 10am .... for about 5mins or so .... believe me all will be just fine .....

9.5 months milestones
