TT vaccine prevents tetanus infection. It helps the body to create antibodies against the tetanus toxin (tetanospasmin). When exposed to Clostridium tetani bacterium, it protects from the illness in the future. Specific doses are required for getting complete protection. If this course is interrupted, it should be resumed with an interval of one month between the remaining doses.TT vaccine protects only against tetanus and neonatal tetanus.When given to women of childbearing age, vaccines that contain tetanus toxoid (TT or Td) not only protect women against tetanus, but also prevent neonatal tetanus in their newborn infants. When TT or Td vaccine is given to a woman who is or who becomes pregnant, the antibodies that form in her body are passed to her fetus.
