Milestones:sleeping issue

Hi all,

Hope to find an answer to the issue. My 18mnths old son wakes every 1 hr or 2 hrs since birth. I understand that the waking during the initial months is fine but even now. He is well fed before sleep. So no hunger problem. He is well active during daytimes and his development is also fine.

But why does he get so often during night. He sleeps after petting him for a while. Its acceptable if he wakes up once every 2 or 3 hrs in the night. Since he is active and healthy, taking him to the doctor is out of question. Since he gets up so often, it disturbs our sleep during the night and consequently disturbs our sleep schedule as well as work schedule. My wife is housewife but she too needs rest.

His pattern of getting during nights has been the same during the summer as well as winter. He is well protected for the both the environments. We are currently located in Japan.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Worried Father.

Try to give your son bath just before bed n if u can then try to do some massage or some gentle head massage.try not to response when your son wake up in night time cos if u play or answer back then he will think its a play time.my son did this he wake up at around 4 once the very first time i answer him so i have to play with him till 6 in the morning then but next night agin he wake up at 4 n was saying something i never answer back so after 10 or 15 min. he went back to sleep n has slept through after that. touchwood. try this n see if it work for you.

Thanks for the suggestion Mandeep.

Whenever he gets in the night, he is not in a playful mood, he starts to cry. So we must pull closer to us so that he is touching either of us and gets a little petting to sleep over. We dont play with him but sometimes we have ignored his cries so that he sleeps, which was successful only a few times. The rest of the times, he persists in crying. So we end up pulling him over or sandwiching him between us.

There also have been very few times, where he has slept soundly for about 4 or 5 hrs at a stretch which is a welcome relief. Sometimes I try to make him tire out by playing with him and making him run around, but no use so far.

But otherwise, he is very active and very bright/pro-active.

dont get afraid and dont loose hopes, your son is absolutely fine, and give him the proper tuition and avoid more playing periods of his, and you should teach him at home when you will get free time.... - praglabh [View Message]
