My daughter is 8 years old. She has got very frizzy hair and it gets extremely dry. Is there any way to make her hair soft & silky Priyadarshani Jai Prakash replied. Hi Vidya,
Give your baby daughter almonds every day - 1 in the morning and one before bed. they not only help in enriching the luster of the hair, it also does makes the face bright and clear. Give her spinach (palak / keerai) invariably everyday. Adding olive oil in small quantities in her food also will help not only her hair, her skin as well.

There are other ways as well you can try to supplement alternatively every week:

1) You can even try giving her a bath with neem leaves boiled in the water used for bathing. Then make the water luke warm to wash the hair.(Remember, never use HOT waster for washing the hair, as it losens the hair folicles and makes the hair weak. Besides, hot water removes the essential natural oils secreted that gives a soft and shiny look and feel. HOT WATER DAMAGES THE HAIR). after washing, add a teaspoon or two of white vinegar in the last mug of water and rinse off with another plain mug of water.

2) You can apply egg white on her hair and allow it to stay for 1/2 hour before bathing. then normally wash with either plain or luke warm water.

3) Hibiscuss leaves OR soaked (soaked for 1/2 hour) fenugreek (methi/ vendhiyam) ground to a smooth paste and applied on the hair for 15 minutes and rinsing it off and washing with shika also helps. (Remember : hibiscuss leaves and fenugreek both are coolants and so let it not stay for a long time and dont give her any cold stuff for the rest of the day).

3) always choose a mild shampoo for the hair. most indian shampoos are very strong. choose a shampoo which has egg in it - the proteins provide vital nourishment and makes it soft and full of bounce.

4) Never scrub the hair hard. treat it like you would treat a baby - very soft. Bundling the hair on the top and washing it like you would wash clothes will not only break the hair and tangle it, it will damage and stress the hair roots, removing all the natural oils. Dont scrub the hair hard after bathing to make it dry. and dont use a comb or brush to remove the tangles. first softly wipe it with a turkey towel from the top till the hair ends - top to bottom softly. then wipe off the excess water on parts where it generally doesnt dry easily slowly taking some time. then use a very wide toothed comb to remove a part of the tangles. then use a fairly narrow toothed comb to remove the rest of the tangles. then let the hair dry naturally. combing the hair like this - softly - when it is fairly wet, not only prevents hair damage, but also sets the hair straight and makes it look shiny and silky and bouncy after drying. avoid tying her her tight. aloow air to penetrate into her scalp easily. when travelling always tie a scarf around her because the pollution tends to make the hair dull and lifeless.
